    Hi there. Yes , there is definitely an improvement in acne if one uses OCP.One can see the improvement in the first month itself. But is acne the only reason you ( assuming it's you) want to start using the pill? I am actually against using OCPs as they majorly mess up with my hormones. I was prescribed pills for pcos ( common treatment for pcos). My periods weren't that irregular but the OB/ gyn made the diagnosis on the basis of USG. I was happy to take them as they made my skin and hair good ( same as happens in pregnancy) . But the day I quit them, everything came back - acne mainly , even worse.OCPs mess up the body as they are basically synthetic hormones. So you have to be really careful using them and also while quitting.Better you get them prescribed by a good Ob/ gyn.I think the brand I was using was Ovral.Hope this helps.

    A couple years back, Diane35 was a very popular contraceptive pills that help lessen acne and facial hair overgrowth. I never took any contraceptive pills but everyone I know seemed to have gained weight from it ( other brands included).

    If you really want to supplement internally, Now Foods L-Cysteine tablets is very effective from my own personal experience, they are not contraceptives though. In fact in Japan, anti-acne pills is nothing more but just a regular l-cysteine.

    I only take them when I get a breakout nowadays since I seem to have a poor appetite everytime I'm on it.

    @momsky - This is good info. Where can I get some L- cysteine ? Is it available on Amazon? I wouldn't mind taking some for occasional acne if it is a natural product.Yes, I forgot to mention to OP that OCPs can lead to weight gain.IMO, anything artificial should be avoided , especially meds.

    Cysteine or any other supplement must be taken under the doctors supervision .

    It's the dual purpose of contraception and acne that I was thinking..
    My acne is bothering me so was tempted to go on the pill again..
    @momsky
    I had taken Diane 35 in the past ..it cleared up my skin n reduced oiliness ..but made me bloated up n gave me headaches..but then I quit the pills after many months to start family..yes my acne came back after stopping it but it was good while it lasted ..
    The acne has affected my self esteem so was tempted to try some other brand of pill to see if it ok help my acne as well..and it's been a year since delivery and I'm not feeding so I can take them...but I've got lots of weight to lose, so if there is a pill that will improve my skin and not make me gain weight I'm ok to try it..
    Of course I ll take only under supervision of a gynaec.

    OP, if you are worried about ACNE , consult a skin specialist. They will provide you medicines to take and creams to apply. I have seen your other posts too. You are already worried about your weight. I have taken contraceptive pills, long back, for nearly 8 months to regulate my period issue. But it increased my weight much, may be due to my body chemistry. It is better not to take those medicines and try other options for contraception by consulting a gynecologist. Good luck

    OP - Is your acne bad right now ? I know I am getting some back since my hormones got back to normal after weaning etc.But can never think of taking ocps again. They really mess up my system.I have found that regular exercise and diet can help in improving acne.BTW,the brand i took -OVRAL ,it never affected my weight.

    My acne is hormonal...
    I've consulted good dermatologist earlier..tried soooo many creams, ointments, lotions, even prescription antibiotics..but not much relief..it's been a while, need to find another good specialist and give a try ..but somehow not having confidence..
    Acne is leaving behind scars as well..red ones and pitted scars..

    My acne is bad sometimes of the month..manageable otherwise..
    Even after weaning and almost stopped lactating, I have no relief from pimples n oily skin..
    A gynecologist whom I consulted long ago had mentioned Ovral L as a popular pill..is it the same which u took? What side effects did it have?
