    Hello everyone,
my 2.4 years old son is speech delayed. I thought of showing him to a good child developmental specialist but couldn't find any in coimbatore so took him to a child psychiatrist. she observed him for an hour and a half and ruled out autism just expression speech delay. but as a mother, I am still a little worried and as I say a few very informative parents here, I thought you could help me.
here's a small description of his behaviour :
    1. wakes up and comes out of the bed smiling and wants to be held for a few secs.
    2. when back, always comes smiling and says "mummmmy" to me.
    3. has been cooperative in playschool, doesn't show any signs of distress when back.
    4. points to tv to put his fav rhymes and smiles and gets very happy on his fav rhymes.
    5. says papa (ya) when the guitar of papaya rhyme plays. already knows it's papaya rhyme.
    6. has one friend and points to his house (to take him along) when we go out (calls him anna)
    7. points whenever plane passes.
    but,
    1. won't play with other kids in the park. plays ringa ringa roses and such, loves slide, won't mind going after others. but won't play with ball etc with them.
    2. fussy eater. not chewing very well yet. only eats banana, apple, oranges. dosa idli rice sambar curd sambar. no chapati. no chocolates etc.
    3. flaps hands sometimes like once a day when excited. has started grinding teeth (along with other teething symptoms)
    4. just knows 10 -15 words. calls car-pipi, papa mummy anna dabba etc. knws all fruits veges and animals in book.

what are the other things I should be observing? do help me with this. I wll plan a trip to bglore if someone suggests.

(PS: his vocabulary has improved a lot in past one month and so had his eating)
    thanks a lot

    OP,

Definitely based on your reply, your son doesnt have autism at all....

some boys speak very late.... dont worry..... all the activities that you have mentioned are normal for any kid....Just teach him more words and keep him encouraging....dont let him sit in front of tv/tab/ipad/lappy for long.....as he goes to play school he will pick up things faster....

    Hi,

I am from Coimbatore. My neighbour's kid is 3+ Yrs and going to playschool for more than 1.5yrs..
He speaks only 2 or 3 words that too only his mom will understand.

Now he is going for speech therapy in KMCH and we could see improvement in his speech.
If you want give a try... They charge Rs.200 for 1 hr

normal, my son at that time didn't play with others. may be kids with siblings learn fast/naturally to play with others.
    2. fussy eater. not chewing very well yet. only eats banana, apple, oranges. dosa idli rice sambar curd sambar. no chapati. no chocolates etc.
try to introduce new items patiently along with what he eats already. even if he takes 1-2 bites keep trying.
    3. flaps hands sometimes like once a day when excited. has started grinding teeth (along with other teething symptoms)
grinding teeth what doctor said about it.
    4. just knows 10 -15 words. calls car-pipi, papa mummy anna dabba etc. knws all fruits veges and animals in book.
try showing board books , which are one word with images, like vegetables book, and then show real veggies from your fridge.

the less tv time (max 1hr for that age) and more you spend or play with him helps. it is great plus he goes to play school. it is also helps him learn new words. and to communicate with others
did teachers say anything that made you think about autism. with above it looks normal as my child was like that. yes i too got so many doubts, i think ur doctor is good, follow their advice.

My friend's son had all the signs whatever your son was showing. Now he is in school and not stop talking and even saying Kabali dailogues in apt situations and everybody was stunned. Remo movie dialogues with his cute childish voice. Just hang in there and everything will be alright soon. If not take the next step. Best wishes.
