    This onam is so special for me since this is my frst onam after my marriage.And first festival with my DH and ILs.Onathiney kurichu parayumbo enikku orma varunna pattu "atham karukumbol onam velukumennaro paranjathu neeyarinjo..." enna song aanu:)
    Pookalam ellam ittitu kure kalam aayi....it was so fun when I was a kid...poovellam parichu onampookalam ellam ittu....it was so great.Missing it very badly.

    yes manju as you said atham pathine pononam,i am from tripunithura and atham aghosham is very special to me.we used to love it so much,then as i grew up i missed many times as usually i get caught with work at blore and all.this year i am waiting for someone to post pics and videos on net.

    though i am not a native of tripunithura, i was living there for more than 2 years.. i have seen atham ghoshayathra.. very nice procession..

    asianet news is telecasting this years athachamayam live now..

    Can someone brief what is Athachamayam? I have heard of it, but don't know it exactly? Is it held in Thripunithara Poornathreyasan Temple.

    atham chamayam is a procession which starts from boys high school tripunthura and travels all through tripunithura,it is on the same day as atham and a one day program,nothing related to temple,it has many tabloids[like the republic day parade] and all organisations and school around take part.pulli kali,elaphants and we even have a group from church too ,which infuses dance,music and beauty.

    history says it was a procession oragnised by the maharaja showcasing the glory of the ruler..etc.check out the link below for more details and snaps.

    Tripunithura Athachamayam Festival 2009 in Kerala

    Athachamayam Festival or Attachamayam Festival marks the beginning of the annual 10 days Onam Festival in Kerala, South India. Athachamayam (Atha Chamayam) is conducted on the Atham day (Attam) of the Malayalam month of Chingam (August – September). Athachamayam Festival takes place at Tripunithura (Thripoonithura) a suburb of Cochin City, which is renowned as the Land of temples, situated in Ernakulam District, Kerala. In 2009, Tripunithura Athachamayam Festival is on 23rd August 2009, Sunday.

    Athachamayam is a very colourful festival with spectacular processions accompanied by decorated elephants and floats, group of musicians, and various traditional Kerala art forms. Some of the beautiful traditional Kerala art forms which are seen during the Athachamayam Festival in Kochi include Chendamelam, Panchavadyam, Theyyam, Karakattam, Mayilattom, Pambamelam, Pulikali, Ammankudam, and Aattakavadi (Aatta Kavadi).

    History of Athachamayam Festival in Cochin

    In earlier times, Athachamayam Festival in Cochin was celebrated in memory of the legendary victory of the Raja of Kochi. On the Atha Chamayam festival day, the Maharaja of Kochi undertook the Attachamayam march from Tripunithura to the Vamanamoorthy Temple in Thrikkakara (also known as Thrikkakara Temple). Though the era of Kings had ended, the festival is still celebrated with all its glory to mark the beginning of state festival of Kerala, Onam or Thiruonam.

    Sree Poornathrayeesa Temple - The ancient Sri Poornathrayeesa Temple, dedicated to Lord Santhana Gopalakrishna (an incarnation of Lord Krishna, is the major religious site located at Tripunithura.

    Kali Kotta Palace - Kalikotta Palace, located near the Sri Poornathrayeesha Temple, is a major land mark which once served as the entertainment auditorium to the erstwhile Rajas of Cochin.

    Tripunithura Palace Museum - Hill Palace Museum is an archeological museum situated on the Ernakulam -Chotanikkara route in Tripunithura. Ernakulam Archaeological Museum exhibits stone inscriptions, murals, oil paintings, palm-leaf manuscripts, coins, and other ancient belongings of the royal family.

    How to reach Tripunithura?

    The temple town of Tripunithura is located just 12 km south-east of Kochi city. Tripunithura is well connected by road with other major towns and cities in the state.

    Railway Station

    Tripunithura Railway Station, managed by the Southern Railways, lies on the Ernakulam – Trivandrum railway line. Some of the major trains passing through Tripunithura Railway Station are Mumbai - Kanyakumari Express, Thiruvananthapuram – Bilaspur Express, Malabar Express (Thiruvananthapuram - Mangalore), and Thiruvananthapuram - Shoranur (Venda Express).
