    Dear Jayasala,

Absolutely correct. But if the crowd present in the religious gatherings is any indication they to do the next best thing by listening. The objectionable verses are conveniently not spoken, but practiced. We see this in real life. "Dhol, ganwar, Sudra, pashu, naari; sab tadan ke adhikari" if often practiced.
As you rightly said, where ever necessary amendments are must.

    Dear Iravati,
Thanks for the suggestion. My job is done by raising the issue and now the onus lies on the ladies who are affected by it. They are already fighting on different fronts for equal rights, empowerment and opportunities. I hope they will take the issue, if they feel so.

    Dear Naari,
A very valid question. This can be done by those who claim to be the protector and preserver of religions - the Acharyas, religious heads. They can debate it thread bare and decide. Government is not and should not be involved. General public will accept whatever they decide.

    Dear Sindmani,
No doubt, Gita is a treasure house of knowledge and learning, all Vedas and Upnishads condensed into one. But then it is not only Gita or for that matter Hindu religion.
Modern day women have progressed inspite and because of these strictures against them and they will continue doing so. It is not that only bad things have been written. Hindu religion has given them the highest position in Goddess of learning Saraswati, Goddess of power Durga and Goddess of Wealth Lakshmi.
"Yatra naryastu pujyante, ramante tatra devata" ( where women are worshipped, devtas live there) is also said in India only.
There are some irritants which should be removed. That is what I am saying.

Agreed. Some unwanted can be removed. I am saying this as a woman.

Hariji, that is some great knowledge & research. Agree, general status of women needs to be changed. And considering we are talking about this in several other forums right now & general rebellion and awakening everywhere, I think the days of fair treatment for women are not far, whether or not we amend the scriptures.

In indian tradition, Bashyams or Commentaries on scriptures by highly regarded saints hold as much authority as the scriptures themselves . Down the line of history there were many saints giving many readings of vedas, gita etc . All guidelines to be followed in life . That is why a guru was deemed important . And you are free to choose the guru parampara you are comfortable with .
Even our Epics are not uniform. There are dozens of versiins of the Ramayana alone .

When there is so much elasticity , where is the need for ammendments ?
