Re: Global Cert in Supply chain Managemnt,Production & Inventory Management(for SAP p Hi, I am sure the certification you mentioned is excellent for career growth. Since I belong to the same industry I will try to put some of my own observations 1. Certifications of the above type is very useful for people who are experienced in any manufacturing sector and have vast domain expertise in production and inventory. As to why, because professionals who do not belong to the IT industry contribute more value to IT than professionals of the IT industry. One of the main reason for this is because people from non IT background have a huge functional experience which is lacking in people who solely belongs to IT industry. Hence to groom ones' career in other industries I strongly feel people from manufacturing sector might explore such certifications. 2. For people who started their careers in IT industry and have been thru' multiple projects on different domains, gains a lot of exposure on other verticals but they need to scale up their knowledge base which they fail to particularly because once their project ends, they are shut out from all information pertaining to that domain, since they no longer work with the client. Hence a constant up dation of domain information needs to be there among such professionals. Unfortunately there is a huge huge gap between industry demand and good quality resources from IT sector. This gap honestly cannot be filled up by any, I repeat any certifying agencies. Primary reason is the entire education system is not industry oriented. I have seen CA guys faring very well vis a vis any IT certified professional while translating any business logic either in SAP or it could be on any other business application. There are other reasons as well. Most of the IT organizations need to keep themselves up in this cycle of extreme economic crisis hence emphasis and priorities are more towards bagging one project, loading a few good and few ok resources on this project and completing the project without actually following PMP philosophies of having a information database wherein all the professionals need to write the challenges of any project, the demand of training and how did they overcome the challenges. I know my post is a bit big and might be out of focus to the original topic but I actually encourage people from different industry verticals to learn certain basics of technology and act as mentors or philosophers to the IT consultants who are really good at implementing solutions technically. thanks
