Dear Chitvish, I am posting a query first time, have read a couple of recepies of yours and they are very interesting. I have bought this packet which says "BOILED RICE IDLY RAVA".I have never made idlis at home before but thought of making this time. Can you guide me. can i make idlis using this "BOILED RICE IDLY RAVA"
Dear I believe it is broken rice. The ratio is 1 portion URud dhal 3 portions rice. The advantage is need not soak rice for more time. Soak urud dal for 3 hrs and rice for 2 hrs. First grind urud dal finely and rice for 1 minute. Add salt. Allow to ferment for 6 to 8 hours. And make idlli.
In Andhra, idlis are made using this rava.Even though, they are not as smooth as the ones made of ground rice, they are soft. For 1 cup of urad dal soak 2 cups of idli rava for 2 hours.Squeeze the water well. Remember, this rava holds plenty of water.Hence this step is important. Grind little, if you don't like coarse idlis and proceed as usual. Hope this helps.
