    Hi all,

Celebrating my daughter's birthday at home, there will be some 10 adults n 10 kids( if all attend).. below is the menu I have decided..

    Chips, nachos
    Idly, chutney
    Pav, bhaji
    Peas pulav, raita
    Gulab jamoon
    Birthday cake

Is this menu sound fine? Should I add or remove anything?I don't wanna include pasta, noodles and pizza..Bored of this..

    Any suggestions welcome

For the kids alone, pizza is needed.kids enjoy it.

also some fruit juice just in case and soda .

    Appetizers add pakoras

Yes I vote for pizza. Kids love pizza...just for kids you can order pizza. Samosa? Indian stores they have frozen one, you have to fry in the oil before the party..

Thank u for the response ladies..But have already mentioned don't wanna go with pasta, noodles n pizza..Main reason kids won't eat anything else if they find these in menu..I can't make pizza at home so have to buy from market which I avoid even for my daughter..As it's junk, so don't want other kids to have too..

    Any other suggestions are welcome

You can either replace Idlies with/or add a live dosa counter (masala dosa for adults and cheese cone dosa for kids to replace pizza) to your tiffin section.Serve the cheese cone dosa in one of the following ways
For your chaat/snack section you can add one of the following
    • Create Golgappa shots - a fun filled pani puri section with different types of pani using store bought puries.PANI PURI SHOTS RECIPE / COCKTAIL PANIPURI RECIPE - Cook with Smile
    • Cut mirchi for adults and aloo bajji for kids.
    • Pesara Garelu | Indusladies (Moong dal spinach pakodi doesn’t feel heavy as the dal is light on tummy). These stay crispy.
    • Get the Deep brand bite sized aloo samosas (you will get 50 in a pack) from the frozen section of Indian stores and deep fry them.
    • Sweet corn chat - Mix boiled sweet corn with chopped onions, tomatoes, peeled and chopped cucumber, chopped green capsicum, green chutney (paste of mint, cilantro and green chillies),salt, chilli powder, chaat masala, lemon juice, dried pitted dates chopped (replacing sweet tamarind chutney with lemon juice and dates) and roasted peanuts. For a variation you can mix this chaat with some plain corn chips just before serving to retain the crunch or serve with some premade lijjad papad cones on the side (they can fill it themselves).
    • Instead of cheesy nachos (if you are already serving cheese dosa) you can create Mexican style papdi (tostitos) chaat. You can follow the filling in this recipe Whats on the Menu?: Tostitos chaat or replace the filling of your choice. You can use the above sweet corn chat as a filling.
I would include some juice and curd rice for kids (with a couple of pickles & sun-dried chillies for the adults).Gulab Jamoon is good but if you need something easy you can try one of these Instant Indian desserts

This is what we did for our daughter's two year birthday.

    Cake
    chips
    two kinds of fruit juices
This we gave soon after cake cutting.

    And for lunch
    Chapathi
    Veg kurma
    Chole masala
    Jeera rice

But then we had very less guests just around 10 people and only three kids.

I buy frozen samosas from the Indian store and just bake them in the oven. Same for any of the other frozen fried snacks like spring rolls. Healthier, faster and less messier.

    veg fried rice
    veg noodles
    veg pulao
if not added green or red chillis or chilli powder, my kid like them with all other spices he is ok

    Boiled/microwaved corn cob as starter
    along with cake:
mixed cut fruit like honey dew green one and orange ones, strawberry, pineapple and water melon, blue berries, may be you need to cut and mix just before serving
banana may make it mushy so avoid

Can you make any fried/baked Vada or cauliflower/paneer 65/Manchurian for peas pulao combo?
It will be a hit. You can prep previous day and just fry / bake on the day.

Add hot chocolate for kids instead of store bought juice and soda for adults.
Icecream is yum with gulab jamun. (Stress free as store bought)
