Might as well post back question here (may help others)

I was so embarrassed I deleted original question earlier.

Dad had medical scare few months back. In that confusion we didn't keep proper track of copay receipt.

Now Dr's office sent us bill even thought we paid copay.

Dad said consider it lesson learned because searching up and down for it simply isn't worth the effort and time.

And don't create unnecessary fight with Dr's office because it is walking distance, the staff is receptive and helpful. And even Dr spares few minutes to talk, even calling back.

But it is still rather upsetting.

You must have paid with a credit card right ? Can you check your statements? Normally most practices are pretty good about keeping track of payments etc because everything is computerized. Assign a drawer in a cabinet( if not folder ) at home for receipts, that way if you don’t have time to file things you can dump it in the drawer and get back to it later.

    My Dad paid with cash.

Yeah, I'll get a drawer just for receipts for future.

Maybe take photo of receipt and email it to myself.

Never did I think such a thing would happen.

Consider this a lesson learned. Always pay with a card from next time onward you have a record of payment even if you lose the receipt.

Is it the copay or deductible that you are now being billed for? It’s the beginning of the year. Deductibles will kick in now. That’s probably why you got a bill. Until you meet your yearly deductible you will get a separate bill in the mail from your provider despite paying a copay during the visit. Call the provider and check.

Usually without paying your copay you can’t see your provider. Even if you don’t have a recipe they will have proof of payment.

Insurance is a nightmare to deal with. I can’t wait to meet our deductible for the year so ins can kick in. I hate January with a vengeance.

After two phone calls explaining that we paid in cash, (and we always pay upfront to avoid prolonging issues), the billing office finally sent an invoice of $0.

Seems that the Medical Center is purposely billing patients even if they already paid.

Now I'll keep receipts and for this particular Medical Center, I'll photograph them and email to an external account.
