OK... no divulging of names and relationships. Let's just say that I am posting this for a random niece. Her auntie is at large on the same internet forum as she is. This older relative knows the details.... everything that had happened in the niece's life. "Everything". The auntie is also patrolling the site, and is "like"ing everything that the niece posts. And is fast in jumping in to support the niece in every argument/discussion that the niece gets involved in. What is the poor niece to do ? Should she reveal the auntie's Identity to everyone in that anonymous forum ? That is against the rules of the forum, and she will get excommunicated if she did that. The poor thing is at her wit's end. What can she do?
She can delete her previous profile and make another profile at the same forum with a different username and try to be less revealing in her future posts .
This is a good rule to follow for any internet posting: always change the details enough so you outline the situation as clearly as possible to get useful feedback, but keep things vague to the extent that no one close to you can easily figure things out. It takes some practice but is not difficult. In the meantime as Deborah has suggested the younger lady can get a new alter ego.
Niece could start calling auntie as Auntie. That would not be revealing identity. But, if Auntie does not like being called Auntie, then, niece still risks excommunication. You wouldn't happen to be the uncle, would you?
Waitaminit! We need more details. Which social network? Usernames would be nice to know, too. Niece should pretend she doesn't know Aunty's ID or even that Aunty is on the same forum. Remember the old saying "eavesdroppers never hear any good of themselves?" Talking/posting smack about spying Aunty should bring a measure of joy to Niece, no? Or Niece could be boring and confront Stalker Aunty and tell her to knock it off.
