Anti-oxidants and Free Radicals

They cause aging by damaging the DNA . Cells are normally able to defend themselves from this. But in stressful environment, this process slows down and early aging sets in.

Free radicals cause cell damage under the condition of stress & strain. Smoking , drugs, alcohol , Pollution, Poor diet, anger also causes cellular damage paving way for diseases related to heart, diabetes, cancer, stroke, etc and also affects the immune system of our body.

Here comes the role of anti-oxidants viz., Vitamin s-‘A’, ’C’, ‘ E’ and enzymes which helps to reduce & repair this damage done to the cells by neutralizing the effects of the free radicals and thus slow down the process of aging.

Food rich in anti-oxidants are Citrus fruits, vegetables, berries, Dark leafy vegetables, Pumpkin, Mangoes, Carrot, green tea, nuts, broccoli , etc. Flavanoids are prepared by plants which helps in repair of cells. Tea manufacturers are now-a-days showing in the commercials that their product is rich in flavonoids. Green tea has that in plenty. So are the green leafy vegetables.

In addition to paying attention to the food, it is very important that we should also change our lifestyle and keep ourselves Calm, Happy, Content and Blissful . Healthy Food and Healthy lifestyle will not only help in healthy and longevity of life but also to stay young for long by slowing down the aging process.

Is it not wise to grab the advantages which nature has packed in fruits, nuts and vegetables than spending on cosmetics, parlours and on anti-aging creams

Dear Mira ma'am,
A very comprehensive post on the harmful effects of free-radicals and the benefits of anti-oxidants....as you have said, it is true that stress is also a main reason for increase of free radicals along with other toxins like chlorine in excess and toxins released from smoking.
