Didn't plan to post in this thread today, but saw in rediff that it is Rekha's brithday. A search for "Rekha songs" turned up such a nice list, it is a good youtube playlist to listen to. Choosing one from that list, that is not just a song, but more a lifestyle component. Have heard it so many times, and the freshness almost never goes. Dekha Ek Khwab tho yeh silsiley huey - some thing about the song - Kishore's voice, the starting, the tulips before they became a Bollywood fixture, or the Yash Chopra magic. Silsila has gone on to mean the movie Silsila rather than 'chain, series' that it actually means. Rekha also had some village belle songs, one beautiful one from that set: Pardesia from Mr. Natwarlal And of course, how can one forget Umrao Jaan - though it'd be a sacrilege to pick one from Umrao Jaan. Many songs, but on Rekha's birthday, Dekha Ek Khwab stands out:
Love this one !! female- yeh kahaan aagaye hum where is this that we have come yu hi saath saath chalte walking together for so long teri baahon me hai jaanam mere jism-o-jaan pighalte in ur arms is where i see myself melting female- o, tu badan hai mein hu chaaya o, you are the arms, i am the shadows tu na ho to main kahaan hoon if ur not there, where else can i be mujhe pyar karne wala the one who loves me tu jahaan hai mein vahaan hoon wherever u are, there i will be hamein milna hi tha humdum we are destined to meet my soulmate issi raah pe nikalte getting through the same road
Another one ! Kabhi kabhi mere dil mein khayal aata hain Ke jaise tujhko banaaya gaya hain mere liye Tu abse pehle sitaaron mein bas rahi thi kahin Tujhe zameen pe bulaaya gaya hain mere liye Sometimes, in my heart a feeling emerges That it's like you have been created just for me. Before, you dwelled among the stars somewhere And now, you have been called down to the earth just for me
An old one this time, a staple on any Mohd Rafi cassette. Mein zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya Dev Anand, Hum Dono. Good I fell in love with this song long before youtube, or the parts where he is smoking might have taken away from the joy. Beautiful words.... barbaadiyon ka soz manana fizool tha, barbadiyon ka jashn manata chala gaya. Was useless to rue the sorrows/bad endings, I went on to celebrating the ruins. gham aur khushi mein fark na mehsoos ho jahan.. Where no difference can be felt between sorrow and joy.
Hmmmm what with all the MIL-DIL, old age home and parental love shenanigans under discussion, I am surprised that no one has posted this one already, as an ode to IL:
Hmm... surprising to see you post this. Used to come on Doordarshan, but that was way before Friends..... Carbon-dating you really taxes the already-fryed bheja/mind. : )
Arrey ...? "More like this", "You might also like", "People who viewed this also viewed .." - iske baare mein suna nahin kya? The sidebar on YouTube transcends time and space! Ahoy recommender systems!
Aaj jaane ki zid na karo The ghazal written by Fayyaz Hashmi. The version by Farida Khanum is the most popular. Though the lines are addressed to a person/love, they can also apply to a moment or a day or a weekend. English translation: Lyrics with English Translation of Ghazal Aaj Jaane Ki Zid Na Karo
