Hi, Yes we do make kolams on amavasai...i am not sure about other castes,but as far i know,but brahmins do make padi kolam but i guess if you have pitrukaryam,kolams need to be drawn after the tarpanam(i am not sure of this,just heard) experienced ladies,correct me if i am wrong
Yes, you can put kolams. If you have to give the tarpanam, then kolam has to be put after that. Kolam is said to be a welcome sign for gods and good omens. When you have pitrukaryams done, importance is given to that. Only after tarpan, you need not wash/mop the house and then put a kolam. This is brahmin's practice. I have seen most other castes putting kolam too.
