Amavasai & Kolams

Hi,

Yes we do make kolams on amavasai...i am not sure about other castes,but as far i know,but brahmins do make padi kolam

but i guess if you have pitrukaryam,kolams need to be drawn after the tarpanam(i am not sure of this,just heard)
experienced ladies,correct me if i am wrong

 

In ours we dont make kolams on Amavasai generally.

Yes, you can put kolams. If you have to give the tarpanam, then kolam has to be put after that. Kolam is said to be a welcome sign for gods and good omens. When you have pitrukaryams done, importance is given to that. Only after tarpan, you need not wash/mop the house and then put a kolam. This is brahmin's practice. I have seen most other castes putting kolam too.

We too don't put kolam on amavasai day, instead we will draw kolam with semman in the entrance on amavasai days..
