    Hi Friends,

I would like to have your thoughts on the advantages and disadvantages of having a child in the US. A friend of mine asked this question recently and I wasn't able to provide a crisp answer.

The only advantage (or disadvantage) is that the kid becomes a US citizen by virtue of being born in the United States. The flip side is that the kid needs to get Visa for visiting India or should get a PIO card or OCI card.

Any other advantage or disadvantage that you all know about?

    There are tradeoffs

    Advantages
    • Arguably better child-birth experience. More thorough medical care.
    • Phscological feeling that you are in the hands of the best doctors in the world.
    Disadvantages
    • In India you would go to your parents house for delivery. In US, it looks typical that the MIL and FIL come over to help. You are never comfortable with your in-laws as you are with your parents.
    • Less social support. You won't get the support of sister or other friends, which you would get in India.
