Scientists Discover a Simple Way to Cook Rice That Could Halve the Calories Reduce the calories in Rice or Pasta.... Apparently adding some oil to rice or pasta while making it, and then eating only day old leftovers (after warming it up in the microwave) can cut down the calories in half. huh ?
Any recommendations for upright or canister vacuum cleaner to use on bare floors? Without beater brush. Use Care When Vacuuming Hardwood Floors "The beater brush, or bar, is the rotating brush on the bottom of the vacuum. It digs into carpet to clean it well, allowing the vacuumming power to suck up embedded dirt,. However it is the enemy of hard flooring like vinyl, laminate and hardwood. The bristles can rapidly wear down the finish of the flooring, resulting in a duller floor." This looks good based on amazon reviews: Amazon.com - Shark Navigator Lift-Away (NV352) - Household Upright Vacuums
Very often you will find an open button or lever underneath the upright, to take out the rotating brush. This is so that you can take the brush out, and remove whatever that is wrapped around it. Notorious wrap-arounders are strings from sewing machine debris, occasional nylons, and obviously hair from cat, plush carpets and people. vacuuming without the brush is feasible, however it is not recommended, in case there is something big and scratchy on the floor, and you end up dragging it along, and make a scratch on the floor. Lift-and-shove-inside brush action is safer for the floor, than drag it with a rubber in the hope that the vacuum would get it. If most of your home is hardwood, then it is best to get the softest brush on your upright vacuum. If the bristles bend easily when you press with your fingers, then it is fine. Once every five or so years, you will see that traficky areas of the floor would be slightly more "matte" than the less trafficky areas. It is in the nature of things, ain't it ? Time for a floor makeover if it bothers you a lot. Is she wearing bell-bottoms ? Are they back in fashion in America ?
I have one in the same series. Slightly different model. I have all hardwood and lots of rugs. Works well on both. No complaints. Amazon.com - Shark Navigator Lift-Away Professional with Dust-Away & 2 Microfiber Pads (NV356E) - Upright Vacuums
Gauri, do you use it with the "Dust-Away hard floor" attachment for hardwood? Do you use the microber pad thingies? Thx
