    Dear Lakshmi,

I feel blessed to come to this thread at the rite time. I am a stay at home mom of a 3 yr old. He s very good in understanding things and can grasp everything easily. But the problem with him is he can never sit in one place fr more than few mins. It is kind of embarassing at times esp when we go to church or any friend's place. Even he cannot sit still in school. He also does not want to come back home whenever we go out.

I would like to know if these are symptoms of ADHD. If so, how can I handle such behavior. One good thing is he loves reading.

    Thanks
    Anitha

    Dear Anitha

Actually ADHD is a hereditary disorder. Your son is small and as a child it is natural to get distracted. The reason he may be not liking to come back is probably he is spending more time at home. Take him for evening walks and to the park if possible everyday. This kind of a routine will not only help him socialise with other children, it will fulfill his need to spend time outside as well. As far as church is concerned, establish a prayer routine at home, like a prayer before naptime etc. Such routine would make him correlate the church with prayers.

Few questions Is your child going to a playschool? if yes what do his teachers say? Does your child have trouble playing alone or playing quietly? The replies would help me judge better.

Dont worry and stop thinking that your child has ADHD. Every child is a genius, yours is too. Every child till age of five gets easily distracted when he/she feels bored, my three an half year old daughter too is extremely active. With both me and my husband working, it has got into her little brain that if she goes out of the house with us, we'll not go to the office the next day!!!

    Dear Lakshmi,

Thank you very much for your explanation. So cute of your daughter to think tht way, kids these days r very smart.

My son goes to prenursery now. Initially had complains from school that he does not sit but now thy say he s much better than before. There are certain activities that he does not mind doing on his own esp the water play. One thing i noticed with him s he s more interested in older kids as compared to kids his age. He likes to equally converse with them and play. Whn u leave with him a kid his age, mostly he will be on his own.

Hope i have answered your queries in the right way.

    Rgds,
    Anitha

    hi Anitha

your son is in the growing stage. children his age generally prefer company of older children because they get pampered. when it comes to children of their age, they like to indulge in individual play. Dont worry, as he grows amidst children of his age, he'll learn to be more social. This is just a passing phase and shows that your child is absolutely making a great developmental progrress.

    Dear Lakshmi,

I enjoyed reading your article and I think I'am in the right place. I have a 3 year old son. He is very kind, smart and understand things easily and also loves to play with other kids. But the thing is he doesnt know how to mingle with other kids. For example if he is in a group he will change his face or if he wants to be in a group he will just go stand with them and if they feel something silly and laughing he will just pretend laughing but we can say that it is not real. If he play's with single kid he is just fine. I just dont know how to make him social in a group. And also i can say that other kids also not considering him as if he is in their group. i'm not sure this is because he is not behaving silly in the group. but otherwise at home he is a happy guy. please advice me on this.

    thanks
    Rohini

    Hi lakshmi
My son is 3yrs old. now he is going to KG1. Y'day we had parents and teachers meeting. In that his teacher told us that he is very shy. His confidence level is very low. He knows everything, but doesnt reply or he will reply very slowly. He is not interested in music. (he has music class). His behaviour is very good at class.

How to comeout from this issue???

    Hi Rohini

sorry for the delayed reply . Was away on leave to in-laws place. Dont worry, your kid is growing the natural way. Being a baby he needs time to mix in a group. Its nice that you are making the effort to take your kid out. Provide him more opportunities to meet other children more often and at a regular interval, for example, take him everyday evening to the nearby park. Any case, once he starts school, he will mix up much better
