The “commercial factor” has become the “vitamin of the day” in all dimensions. The trendy and much awaited hours relates to the <st1:time minute="0" hour="12" w:st="on">noon</st1:time> and dusk, wherein the master makers of each home glue-on to the television sets. Rather than canalizing energy through entertainment, TV serials ride the crest of emotional wave. The coercive action forces crippled performance thereby de-motivating and demoralizing the women at home. Serials can be used as a vital weapon to create awareness regarding health hazards, environmental problems and socio-economic concerns instead of the same old “in law-in law” fight that pushes us to the end of a blind alley.
    <o:p> </o:p>
It is the bounded duty of the home makers to introspect and reflect, rather conscientiously to evolve a system by which slowly but steadily create and imprint in the minds of the divinely adaptable young minds to reflect and introspect themselves to change their mind-set. Is there not a necessity for a head-room for a head-start? Surely “necessity is the mother of invention” like “Mrs.Malathy is the mother of IndusLadies”.

    Dear Ramya
thought provoking post. I dont watch serials and such in T.V. solely due to the factors you describe. I think we just need to make our decision and have alternate avenues open for our families. keep bloggin..

    Dear Ramya,

Take the good and leave the bad. We have stopped seeing serials when the kids are around, so most of the serials we dont see. But what about other programs too. They too create negative ideas and images in the minds of kids. Some revolution should come and the programs for the kids should be created harmless to their minds and souls.

Keeping my fingers crossed and hoping to see such programs in the near future. Of course currently Chutti TV is doing some good programs, but still then there are lots that should be viewed only with adult supervision.

    Hello Rajmi ma'am

I truly agree with your mind set! But it is a wide known fact that "serials" are creating negative pictures about women at large. Women themselves come forward to take up such characters. True that, its left us, whether we are going to take the good or the bad.

Yes, TV channels should keep in mind that they are being watched on by young minds which are yet to be molded. At times, the negative masks the effect of the positive. That's what i concentrated on.

    Regards

    Dear Ramya,
Pls cut that ma'am. Yes true that negative masks the positive, but we could avoid the negatives all by ourselves. As a student counsellor I tell my students to take only the good things in all that they see. Even in the TV serials.

Todays kids are more matured enough to differentiate between the good and the bad. I could assure you of that.

My daughter wanted to know about the napkin's advertisements. She wanted to know what that product is. I just gave her a breif description and told her that I will teach her in another 2 years time. She understood. But I personally feel that these advertisements could be avoided all the same.

Not just the nakpins but so many other advertisements arouse the kids's curiosity more than the serials. Though there is a regulatory board for advertisements they are not able to deliver their fullest. As the advertisements are increasing every other day.

An enthralling evening to you Rajmi (ma'am); become an habit :)

Todays generation is a lot more informed and matured as you have told. More of exposure to add on to their curiosity. Yes, regarding the advertisements, i too feel the same. But the factor of "commercialism" has become the order of the day.

In order to capture the market, advertisers take an edge over their competitors and rivals by displaying anything and everything they produce. As you have rightly pointed out, its left to the individuals to take what has to be imbibed.

According to me, there are many editorial columns where-in public reactions can be expressed. I feel that we can take steps to create awareness! Pen down the preventive measures so that we can restrict ourselves from stepping on to the slush.

Regards (Phew.. just managed without "ma'am") :)
