Dear Raji, Shasti is 60 and Apda is 1 and Shasti Apda Poorthi is completion of 60 years of life. Since, the Tamil years are 60, it perfectly matches with the Shasti Apda Poorthi. A person is expected to see 1,500 full moon days which is approximately 120 years of life. Shasti Apda Poorthi is one-half of life. When someone completes 1,000 full moon day, it is celebrated as Bheemaratha Shanti or Sadabhishekam or Sahasra Chandra Chandi Homam. Viswa
Dear Viswa Sir, I think Beemaratha Santhi is celebrated on completion of 70 years. Men folk are given more importance in our society and their 60 is a grand celebration just like a wedding where as women folk celebrate in a quiet mode!! Regards.........
Dear Raji, You are right. I misspoke about Beemaratha Shanthi. I am 59 years old now and I should know them better. Living in the US makes me forget many things. Viswa
