jskls, I struggled to read and managed to but the meaning got lost in the struggle to read. Then made my son to read it to me last night ...

Of the few things in life that I regret, one is not having learnt to read and write tamil. Every summer holidays, my dad would round up all the kids in the neighbourhood( 7 of us) to teach tamil, Every year we had to start from the aana aavana and eventually never made much progress because we tried every trick in the book to escape this kodumai. My paichi tamil is good, thanks to speaking it at home, and in the last 2 decades improved a lot by watching local news and other current affair programmes. But if only I could read. Sometimes hubby reads out articles to me. Sometimes I pester my son to. A language as rich as Tamil opens up a beautiful world. The irony is oru mozhi in arumai teriyum moodu, adhai katrukolvadu miga siramamaaga irrukiradu. My half glass of Tamil at least allows me to at least get a sip of it, though it doesnt quench my thirst.

So please teach, years later there will be some child somewhere who is thankful that you taught her some basics that would keep her connected to her roots. And maybe she will learn enough and pass it on?

Thanks @SunPa for your encouraging loving kind words. It's really fun to teach children but its the parents and other elders I have tough time dealing. As you say, en kadamai pani seithu iruppathe and beyond that I should not worry. Thanks for sharing your experience.
