    Hi girls! :hiya

I'm hoping you can help me find a gynaecologist in Bangalore who does not push for C-sections. I live near old Airport Road, so I'm looking for a gynaec who is available nearby or maybe in Indira Nagar or Koramangala.

I've been to Manipal Hospital, but I've heard horrifying stories about Shobha Rani and other doctors there. I met Manjula Prabhakar there, who was very overbearing and stiff even on my first visit. So I'm definitely not going back to her. (It didn't help that she was talking about a C-section that very day - and mine was a PRE-conception visit!! :bowdown)

So would you please help me know of a good gynaecologist who at least talks to you properly and has a record for assisting normal deliveries instead of pushing for a C-section purely to save time and fill their pockets? I understand that a C-section is sometimes required, but I don't want to go through one simply for non-medical reasons. I'm feeling kind of depressed and scared already. :(

I've been recommended Dr. Shobha Venkat from Indira Nagar as being a nice doctor, but I'm not sure about her support for normal deliveries. What do you think?

    Hi,

I went to Shoba Venkat for one visit. I found her very young. Somehow I feel for a Gynec experience comes with age. However thats my psychology. Also I found a senior doctor Gayatri Karthik also a bit commercialised. Now I have settled in with one of the best doctors called Jaya Bhat (who has an OP in Richmond Road and Apollo Sagar Clinic Indranagar and comes to Manipal hospital to handle deliveries.) .She was the earlier HOD of gynecology dept Manipal hospital.I have heard first hand experiences of how she has delivered even complicated cases through Normal. I am in my 7th month now and have been going to her for the last 4-5 visits and found her to be confident and dedicated to her profession and most importantly very easily accessible inspite of the huge rush of patients that she has.My due date falls on Feb 12 , and I can let you know my experiences of delivery with her if your due date falls later.

    Regards,
    Purnima

Thanks Purnima for sharing your experience, you are a sweetheart! I have heard some good things about Jaya Bhat too. Wishing you good luck with your delivery.:thumbsup

Do other folk here also have experiences with Jaya Bhat or Shobha Venkat? Or any other gynaec known for normal deliveries?

    Hi Sonal,

My brother's wife delivered at Cradle in October. Her doctor was a male gynaec... sorry i forget to recollect his name. She said he's very pro-vaginal delivery and is quite popular in Bangalore for even vaginal delivery after a c-section (VBAC). She had quite a bit of complications like the baby wasn't heads down and fixed until the last moment etc., but he encouraged and did a normal delivery. Next time I get to talk to my brother will get the doctor's name.

Thanks Latha, it will be really good to know the name of this doc. I've been to a male gynaec only once before and it was okay - I didn't feel more or less awkward compared to visiting a lady gynaec. *blushes anyway*

Folks, does no one else know of any other pro-vaginal delivery gynaec in Bangalore? I should be meeting a doctor this week, but I don't know who. :-(

    Hello Sonal,

I know of Dr. Kamala Unnikrishnan from Lakeside Hospital. She is also available at Lotus Diagnostic Centre at Indiranagar which is near Amar Jyothi Hospital. Her sister Dr. Lathika also is very good Someone had earlier mentioned as a response to some other post that she goes in for C- section. knowing her since 10 years I personally do not think so. She is very experienced, more than 30 years and I don't think that any doctor with ethics will resort to C- section when there is no reason to do so.
    Regards,
    Abha.

    Thanks Abha,

I should check out if I can meet either of these docs.
I also think that a doc with ethics will do what's right. But the problem is, how do I locate a doctor with ethics? :) 100% of my friends (and I have many) have gone through C-sections and each one had been prodded into a C-section. More like, being scared into having a C-section at the last minute by saying that any responsibility of any harm will be in the patient's own hands. Hearing such things at the last moment made these women and their families succumb to C-sections, whether or not they were necessary.
