I love the meaning of this sloka - so simple yet captures so much. Thank for choosing to share this one @Viswamitra Sir. ("Lead me from death to immortality - I personally may interpret this to mean "lead me from fear of death to (focus on) the immortality of my soul?") Or maybe it means - Help make me more God-like in my nature because immortality is associated usually only with God?

I always thought Amrita was a "food of gods" - pleasantly surprised to hear that it means "deathlessness" - so revealing of human nature. Maybe it has a root word relationship to "martyr" - I don't know.

I interpret death as something associated with our body, mind and intellect ("BMI"). When one transcends this feeling, one could experience immortality of the soul. This particular Upanishad is very powerful telling us to differentiate real (one that empowers or energizes the world) from unreal (the world that unfolds in front of our eyes), move away from ignorance (darkness) into knowledge (light) and move away from death that happens to impermanent things such as BMI to immortal Soul.

    Dear @startingnew

Just for fun and for my own clarity I would rewrite the first shloka as -

Agaja + Anana = agajanana padamarkam
    gaja+Ananam = gajAnanam
    AhaH+nisham = aharnisham
    Aneka dam tam BhaktAnAm
    Eka dantam upasmahe!

    Hope you do not mind.

Now coming to this one, it is a fairly easy translation.

I took the help of dictionary and here are the word to word meanings. I would love to go to the roots of these words, but perhaps not now -

    Atma – self (indweller)

    Rama – rama

    Ananda – bliss

    Ramana – pleasing

Achyutha – steadfast, not fallen, imperishable, solid, not slipping, permanent, firm

Kehsava – having long or handsome hair, name of Krishna

    Hari – green

    Narayana – god Narayana

Bhava – , birth, worldly life, prosperity

    Bhaya – dread, fear

    Harana – removing (remover)

    Vanditha – prostrate, celebrates, praised

Charana – managing, course, motion (feet)

Raghukula – belonging to raghu’s vamsha

    Bhushana – decoration, ornament, embellishment

Rajeeva – striped, streaked, elephant, blue lotus flower, species of fish, living at king’s expense

    Nayana – eyes

    Adi – begin

    Narayana – God Narayana

    Anantha – adishesha, infinite, infinity

    Shayana – sleeping, couch, bed

    Sathchitananda –
    • Sat: truth, absolute being or existence-- that which is enduring and unchanging
    • Chit: consciousness, understanding and comprehension
    • Ananda: bliss, a state of pure happiness, joy and sensual pleasure
    Satya – authentic, true, truth

    Narayana – God Narayana

Anyone, finding any errors please feel free to correct. @startinganew , I quite enjoyed doing this! Thank you!
