Oci Question - Confused!

Anyone here who recently applied for OCI? I have to apply in the Houston consulate. Had a couple of questions:

1. Do you need to send your US passport in with the rest of your application materials? If yes, when do they send it back? We have international travel scheduled soon so I am worried that it won't come back in time.
2. Can you wait for a few months after getting US citizenship before you apply for renunciation of Indian citizenship and OCI together?

Any advice appreciated!

We did our oci recently.
You have to send the passport with the paperwork.
It came back in 2 to 3 weeks
The oci paperwork is really tough and confusing. Good luck.
The customer service is good. Give them a call
