Cummod wise- Indian toilet is good for regular use as it prevents piles etc in the long run. Squatting is the natural position. But western is more convenient for use.
So it's about convenience vs health - you should have Indian in attached toilet but regular use, and western in common toilet. Otherwise if elders need western toilet they may end up using your private one which you will not like.

 

Hey..... I don't prefer Indian style Toilets. I feel comfortable in Western Style Toilets.
People have different preferences. So it is totally up to you which style you like..

( In villages of India it is neither. Our govt. programme had given thrust for construction of large number in lacs in rural India. News item reports - A just married girl returned back to mother’s home for want of toilet in parents in law’s residence in rural India)

Are you in village of India or should IL members to assume you want suggestions for all categories of places - metro, semi urban, village, etc and is it for middle class, upper middle class, affluent class, for joint family or cellular, nuclear...... and you prefer INDIAN style yet you desire ILs opinion.

3. Good. Economy. Indian style with attachment to convert instantly to western style is available in all metro. It can also be improvised. It may be noted that in case of emergency or exigency - to convert quickly instantly to WS from IS NEEDS BIT OF TIME AND PROBABLY A HELPING HAND.

4. Large Private room or master bedroom affluent class:
Attached bath can be equipped to have both Indian style and western style as well that would suit all ages.

• (Keep in mind Young couple turn old after some years)
• If chronic constipation’s are in mind WS IS PREFERRED since they would keep a small library with lots of latest paperbacks comics etc and hold the book comfortably read doing multi tasking or compounding the time! I saw It in my friend’s huge flat in Alta amount road Malabar hills Bombay then now Mumbai. ( just below Ambani’s floor )

5. As pas per ancient custom, it is better to finish “it” in open when it is still dark around. Open defecation in distant fields -agriculture fields nurture the soil and one’s such action is considered environmental friendly)

• In California plan is afoot to collect dung on daily basis, and transport it to a central place process to produce gas and electricity.

6. Bathrooms in modern pigeon holes situated in concrete jungles with Indian or western should be equipped with small railings to enable stability for the user.

7. In IS bathrooms, bath soap slips from butter fingers while taking bath often lands into that pit between foot rests.

• In WS bathroom, an elderly member while taking bath attempted to field the slipping bar soap from his palm that followed a trajectory into the commode and in that process his head collided & injured the expensive commode and his dull-head too. Broken Commode stands replaced while the the old man convalescing from head injuries now yet the hospital not inclined to leave him.

8. Cleaning of toilet is somewhat easier in WS for all ages while in IS, one has to stoop or bend forward and tummywalas on the wrong side of forty or fifty attempt to clean with active ingredient and acid would pant and feel often world around them is revolving.

• Flushing : the effective cleaning process depends on availability of water, flow of water, maintenance of flush tank, smoothness of inner surface of commode and some more. Many beautiful toilets with right ambience built in flats turned useless or use less for want of adequate water supply in cities like Chennai.
• Maintenance cost: WS is more than IS.

For common bathroom, I would suggest going for a western toilet as people of all age group can use it.
