Music Teacher- Online Or Off Line

Hi ladies,

How to choose a carnatic music teacher?
I don't have many options im living overseas.
I found a teacher she is kinda ok, but expects way higher. Wants to recite sarali varisai in 2 weeks,w with thalam, which is not possible.

So I'm thinking to look for online classes , are they effective?
I'm doubting if little 4-5 yr old can attend online session with focus?

It is a bit much for a 4/ 5 year old to be able to sing sarala varisai in two weeks perfectly. I would not recommend online classes for the child at that age either because I now strongly believe to achieve the tonal capabilities a lot more than the general "sing properly!" order is necessary.

I suggest that you try getting the child ear training apps to begin with at this age. Let the child sing along to get the ability to hear and distinguish notes. There are also some very good rhythm apps. Surround her/ him with music - let it play in he background.

If you sing to tune, I highly recommend you sing swaras to the child during playtume/ bath time etc.

These will lay an excellent foundation for when the child is 7ish and more receptive.
