As we don't use these items regularly my daughter don't know what it is. So I bought this and painted in traditional way. I showed her that it is necessary for all auspicious occasions.... and now she is very well aware of this....

@Sowmyaraghu What a wonderful idea! Thank you for sharing it with us. Are these miniature sizes or the originals that were previously used in your home?

One clarification though - just for me to learn - what do you mean by they are used for auspicious occasions? Are you saying that when cooking on auspicious days you use these instead of a mixie? I didn't about this practice. In my case, my grandparents used these in our native place. My mother has them but moved to using the mixie and grinder fully. :-D

    Hi Thank you dear...
These are not miniature size and also not very big as olden days.... This is portable.... say diameter of 15 Cm. We call it as Oralukallu in karnataka and the other one is about 12 cm height.

We use these in Devarasamaradane - the previous day of Wedding, Upanayanam (Thread ceremony).
It is used to grind the turmeric sticks. The turmeric powder what we get by this is applied to Bride and groom and the boy of Upanayanam.

    Regards,
    Sowmya
