Tips for Newcomers to U.S

Few first things to do once you reach US/Canada

Creating state id (eg California I'd )
One main complaint in you will feel is feeling bore ,lonely, no friends and family in US... So
Taking driver's license ( freedom of travelling)
Try for job if you are in work visa
Apply for H1, in case you are H4
Try for higher studies if you have any plan for higher studies.
Try to do volunteering.
Search for nearby Indian communities ,YMCA ,temple , Spiritual community and any other club to make friends ( Normally by the time people realize these points it will be time to move back !! So utilize your time in a better way )

 

Hi All,

Things that I brought with me when I moved to US:
Documents:
a) all Educational certificates, a diary with ph nos of all my contacts, marriage certificate, photocopies of my Passport, hubby's passport, a pen and small notepad
keep all these in your hand bag.

Clothes:
a) 3 pairs of night wear, few pairs of inner wear
b) 1 pair of thermal wear for winters
c) 2 sarees and 4-5 salwars
d) 2 Jeans and 6-7 T shirts
e) 1 pair of sandals and 1 pair of good walking shoes

Kitchen Items:
a) serving spoons, small cooker, rolling pin
b) small kitchen towels -2, sambar masala, sabji masala , garam masala, turmeric and red chilli powders - 1 packet each
c) a calendar in my regional language with all festivals and tithis
d) some home made snacks, papads, pickles, dry chutneys

Misc:
a) toiletries like body wash, shampoo for 1 month
b)If you are specific about using any ayurvedic/Indian cosmetics/creams and face packs, get good quantity from India to last for 6 months
c) bindis, artificial jewellery, 2 combs, matching earrings , bracelets
d) a small mat( used for sleeping), 1 pair of bedsheet
e) Medicines like, pain killers, and any other specific meds you take with its prescription, band-aid, cotton balls and a generic antiseptic cream
f)Any Technical books related to your Job/work and 1-2 novels

Pooja items
a)small photos/brass/silver idols of the Gods you worship
b) cotton wicks, 2 brass diyas, incense sticks and incense stick holder, turmeric and vermillion powder packets, sandal wood powder, steel pot and small plate, sloka book

 

Please suggest wet grinder here in US for rice batter

 

Which is better option for stainless steel cookware .
Buying Cuisinart or getting a parcel of cookware from India.

Will there be special care If I put her in an inclusive school....
