Hi ladies, So i recently joined my organisation. I have not been assigned any work.. just some ppts to go through.. now that im finished going through and understanding it,i have nothing to do other than staring at screen. Suggest some threads from this forum or other websites to while away time
IL has tons of discussions to read: 1. If you have a specific TOPIC that you are interested to see the discussions ( Ex: Pregnancy, Relationship) , Check on 'FORUMS' 2. If you want the IL topics posted by women living in your City/Country , Check on "NEIGHBOURHOOD' 3. If you want to see latest posts, Check on "HOME" All these options are in the upper right menu.
I am the same situation right now. I am on https://www.quora.com/ to while away my time. There are many diff topics. Each day I pick one and have been doing this for the past 3 weeks !!!
If there are free online courses that you can do to improve your knowledge in your area of work, you can do that (like Coursera, Udemy).
If you have just started at a new office and you are amongst other colleagues don't surf this other general forums .. If some one notices it does not leave a good impressions , pic any tech found or go through thier intranet site if they have it any skill update programs they may have .
Typical newbie mistake. Do not get noticed doing nothing: Your project is to establish a reputation for yourself. Go back to the powerpoint and ask some questions: 1. Why were you given those power points to "go through" ? 2. What does "go through" mean ? 3. Who are you supposed to report on your "go through" ? 4. How can you make that "go through" useful for whoever asked you to go through them ? 5. When presented to an audience, would that powerpoint go on to inform, change someone's opinion, or simply occupy time ? 6. Where are you located in your office ... i.e., is your monitor screen visible to all, some, none ? I would recommend redoing the ppt in ways and manner you would like to see it. Ask whether each sentence, bullet-phrase, and picture would make sense to the intended audience, and fix it the way you think is best. Show your individuality. And then when asked what you'd been doing with yourself (by the whoever you report to), you can present two ppt files side-by-side and show why you think certain changes would be more impactful. It has been said that "work expands to fill the time (and budget) available". Although it might sound facetious, in many instances, it is a brilliantly useful advice. Get to it.
At work, if you are bored, learn something new to update your skills. No employer will accept browsing community websites at work. At the same time, no employer will stop you browsing anything related to updating your skills which is useful for the organization. While most community websites, Gmail, Yahoo, etc. are restricted, Google is not.
