What is your suggestion @BerryPine? If the husband is mean, something is not real. That is what OP had mentioned in this thread. What can she do, just leave without making any effort?

Latest update . Thanks for all your suggestions.
Spoke to DH in a calm manner and he right away gave me one of his cards.
And he agreed that I can have some freedom for myself

Card has to be in your name to be able to use it in stores. Maybe online you can use his.

This is a good start. But like others pointed out you can only shop online with his credit card. A reminder for you to work on getting the following done :

    A) Have a few if not all joint accounts: savings , checking, investments. You should have access to everything in case of any emergency. Keep yourself updated every month about your finances.

    B) Get a credit card in your name

    C) Build your credit history: Pay bills for utilities , rent , groceries etc with the credit card.

    D) Get your drivers license

    E) Improve your skill set so you are qualified when you are legally approved to work. I assume this will happen sooner than later ?

    F) Make connections : Friends / volunteer work anything.

I apologize if I sound preachy. I had alarm bells ringing when I read through your subsequent replies. Marriage is about equal partnership.

Your husband having lived abroad should know about the importance of building a financial history. Unlike in India it is very critical in other countries.

You have plenty to work on . This is a good start.
