    Dear Geetha,

The experience I had while treating my mother for her spinal chord problem, left a bitter taste in me about doctors for many years to come.
While the hospital in which she was admitted refused to part with her medical records, we had no way but to steal it, make copies and then seek the second opinion of other doctors. Even at this point, none of the doctors were ready to give a second opinion unless the patient was brought to them personally which was not possible unless she was discharged from the hospital in which she was undergoing treatment.
There may be a few doctors here and there who take their Hippocratic oath seriously and be candid about their opinions and the course of treatment!

Well said, @signature. We need a more patient friendly system in place.

I can understand what you went through. The patient is totally at their mercy. It is a relief that there are still a few good doctors who treat their profession with the reverence it deserves.

Once I had a rib fracture. Armed with the x-ray we rushed to our known Orthopedic surgeon. Luckily, we caught hold of him in the parking lot at the entrance of the hospital. He was leaving early as he didn't have patients. When we mentioned that we had come to see him, right in the parking lot he checked the x-ray and prescribed my medication+ other advices. We were touched by his simplicity and lack of greed. I have also come across a doctor who once referred me to another specialist and a few days later, the first one asked me to remind the second one for her ''packet"!!!

I saw a Tamil movie a few years back in which a well known Hospital continues to treat a man for two days after his death to increase its billing! Indians are great survivors. Don't they continue to exist despite these doctors and hospitals?Mera Bharat Mahan should rewritten as Mera Bharat Kahan!

That so true, @Cheeniya Sir. I saw the Hindi version of that movie.

A known person deceloped heart ailment and he was advised bypass surgery. Within the first 30 mins of the operation beginning, the celebrated main surgeon walked out making the relatives wonder about the status of the operation and the patient. But after 2 hours the operation was declared as a success and the patient was moved to CCCU and of course, nobody could meet the patient. And all of a sudden after 2 hours the patient was declared dead!!!!

Once I saw a hospital keeping the dead body amidst discarded furniture between the wards! I was young and ignorant then to question such practices. Now I realise and can question but...will it elicit answers from the right persons? Fearing repercussions most of the time we shutup.

True Geeta. The value of life is zero in India. Tamilnadu tops in murder in broad day light. They arrest a few persons and we never know what happens thereafter. We hear of them only when they commit the next murder for money.
A couple days back, such an incident happened in Chennai.Read this

Shocking reality, Sir. Criminals are brazen these days. Lynching of people by public is also on the rise. Perhaps a lot of suppressed anger!

The corporatization of m medicare has turned lkot of doctors into gold digging demons. With the collapse of the old family doctor system, when there was a personal equation between doctors and patients , what we have is government hospitals reeking of indifference and corporate hospitals where balance sheets matter more than lives. This is not to say there are no good doctors. There are still dedicated professionals who care about their patients but their number is dwindling.

Agree with you 100%, Balaji Sir. As you rightly said, to compensate the bad experience some doctors give, there are still some exceptional doctors who are just next to God. My son's Paediatrician was one such thorough professional with an amazing skill.
