Well Ladies...I have a very peculiar problem...i am not sure if its even a problem, kind of an irritation.

I bought a idli cooker couple of months ago, the usual premier one which we use in India with four plates. Now the issue is its makes this very noisy whistle sound which my DH is finding very irritating :bonk ...I have no clue how to reduce the sound.

He is being a bit more careful that it should not inconvenience to others. I even tried to convince him saying this is the same one we use at our home too back in India...but whenever i start making idli...he makes faces and gets irritated.:drowning

    Ladies please help....

Bujji, I really do not know how the new cookers work but I am wondering as to why don't you use the regular cooker where we don't have to keep the whistle! And any ways how do you deal with regular cooker whistle when you cook normally?

Hopefully another ILite who has used this cooker can give you an answer!

just remove the whistle, dismantle it, and time the cooking time of steaming idlis once and follow.. and yes many find that sound very irritating even me, that i stopped using them...my mil used to use them for cooking rice too...

    Thanks for the reply ladies...

@Srama, i have a very small pressure cooker around 2.5 which doesnt fit the idli plates so went for the seperate one for idlis. Normal pressure cooker its only at a time na...so he is fine but this idli cooker makes sound continously and that too like an alarm...lol...

@Shanvy...thanks much for the suggestion, i will try to implement it next time...:)

    Have a good day!!

Hello ladies better go for idli steamer which is suitable for outdoor catering or fast food joints to make 36- 54 steamed Idlies, Dhoklas, Momos, Khaman or any such steamed item. There are lots of Commercial kitchen equipment companies in India which sell idli steamer with good service.
