In phoren life, festival days slip by if no one in the circle of friends remembers it to tell everyone else. Internet forums like this help people remember the days, as well as recall whenever in the past they had celebrated it in their home country.
    Happy Ganesh Chathurthi.

Quick recipe for making a westernized modak:
    ingredients:
    1. baking chocolate, unsweetened. Mexican stores would call it "cooking" chocolate.
    2. dry coconut coarse flakes
    3. gyoza skins (pot-sticker skins)
    Procedure:
Melt the chocolate (squares) by dunking the bottom of the bowl with the chocolate in another bowl that has very hot water. Stir. This makes a uniform melt, and preserves the taste.
Then with stirring, add the coconut flakes into the chocolate. And continue adding coconut flakes and stirring, until the consistency of this "filling" is right: easy to spoon into a gyza skin, and shape into a sphere.
Take one gyoza skin (buy in the supermarket) place one small scoop of chocolated-coconut in the middle, and make the modak shape.
Make the modak (gyoza) in a skillet with a lid. Use ghee to crispify the bottom of the gyoza.<hint: google "how to make gyoza">
For children one may use regular chocolate to make the modak.
