A lot of my friends buy regular clothes for rapidly growing kids from thrift shops. The ones located in more expensive neighborhoods usually have good selection and the clothes are dirt cheap. They launder them thoroughly before using.

    Hi Usha,
Welcome to US. Jacksonville is a nice place. Weather wise pretty similar to India - very hot and high humidity. Has sizeable Indian population only - not like bay area/texas, so few Indian stores. Here are a few tips
    1) For wet grinder/ mixie better to buy here - I bought one from India and it broke within a few months, now I have to bring back to India for warranty claims. So I threw that and bought a new one here. Pricewise it might look a bit expensive when compared to buying in India, but not worth the hassle. Now Walmart itself sells Indian mixie & grinder online and they offer pickup discount , which beats amazon prices and comes very close to Indian price.

    2) Since it will be very hot in Florida, you will need cotton clothes for kids. Most of the cotton stuff I see here have Made in India/china tags. So i think its good to buy home wear clothes in India. For outerwear/school wear, better buy here, so they can dress according to the trend here.

    3) For tamarind, I dont see difference in quality here. In Florida, lot of public parks and walkways will have tamraind trees. During season, we used to take from them. Sometimes Indians with tamarind and curry leaves trees in their backyard will sell them in temples.

    4) If you are bringing a pressure cooker, bring 2 additional gasket and safety valves.Good to have replacement ones at hand. When I needed one, had to wait for a few days for delivery. Gaskets cost $8-10 here. Also get a flour seive. The ones here are not that comfortable.

    Hi,
    Pls compare the price..
Intially you might have the price comparison issue.
Mixie you can get here, grinder you better get from India. Specific models won't be available here.
Bring steel utensils, steel ladles, dosa tawa non stick. chapati board and belan. Kadais...idli stand which can be inserted in big 5 lit cooker. Coffee filter, steel plates. Small steel cups.
3 lit and 5 lit cooker with extra valves and casket.
    Cotton dresses for family.

Here you can buy iron tawa from lodge griddle in Walmart Amazon...it's so good.

    Thank you so much
Thank you for your timely reply! I reached here 2 days back and the weather seems to be very similar to India. Looking forward to meet few Indian families to socialise and understand about living in US. I stay in Bartram Park Blvd. any1 from this locality?
