Chudidhar Means Behenji/aunty??

When I last went to India 3 years ago even middle-aged ladies were wearing leggings and short kurtis or kurtas with thigh-high slits, regardless of how it looked on them. While I certainly approve of this bindaas attitude my male relatives appeared chagrined.
I love wearing Indian clothes when I go home since that's the only time I get to do so. And I'm close to crossing into behenji/aunty territory anyways so I guess I will just have to rock it.

The reasons the pants were called chudidar was because of the folds at the bottom which gives a bangle like appearance hence the name "chudi" which means Bangles . Duppata has nothing to do with churidar. You can chose to wear it without dupattas. Leggings is a western style pants with no folds at the bottom . However, now both terms are used and misused interchangeably.

 

I hate seeing women wearing leggings. Ugh. Please go back to churidars.

 

Yes, there is a lot of thigh for those poor leggings to contain.

 

Leggings... though quite comfy, are cringeworthy when worn inappropriately. One just needs to use their brain on what things to pair. Mix and match is quite a blessing to be honest.

Back to leggings.... Theres a lot of leggings with kurtis and leggings with t-shirts!!! And leggings + riding a scooter - a definite no. Most of the times im left wondering if these people take a good look at themselves before setting off... or if the people who live with them do not care enough to let them know what suits them and what doesnt.

Longer leggings which have churidhar like foldings at the bottom are called surprise surprise - 'çhuridhar leggings'.
