If you are about to visit Switzerland join a tour to CERN - the world's leading nuclear physics lab. Even if you have never heard about the large hadrons collider - the machinery you will see is breath-taking. There is nothing comparable! In the US, you might want to visit one of the NASA sites.     Are you bored, but rich? Why not spend some $100,000 for getting your genome sequenced? You will get a map with all your 3 billion pairs of DNA "letters" in the form of a colorful chart. However, think twice whether you really want it! Increasingly, sections of the human genome are identified as being related to particular hereditary diseases or preconditions for serious illnesses.     Burned out? Bored with mass tourism? Why not spend a few weeks away from everything? There are still quite a few very nice and quiet places without TV, cell-phone connection, or the Internet. If you ever come to Austria spend a few days in one of the country's most spectacular little mountain huts. It is a quiet, sunny place on a little stream - about an hour away (by car) from the next settlement. But it has everything - including shower, water toilet, and (solar-powered) electricity.     Apparently, juggling is not only fun, but also trains your brain in various ways. And if that is just a popular myth then juggling will at least keep you entertained for some time.     54. Write a novel!

    Did you always want to write a novel, but never really got to it? Just try it now! All you need is a PC or laptop, an on-line thesaurus, a good spell-checker, a word processor and imagination. It is really amazing what you will (most likely) experience: You will sit in front of a blank computer screen - typing one first sentence after another. Each time you will delete the few words just typed - disgusted with how bad they sound. Most people give up at this stage. If you get over it and the words come out streaming you might be able to write a few dozen or a few hundred pages. Once you are done print out your master piece and let it sit on your desk for a week. Then read it again. Be prepared for a shock! If you are like me, you will laugh out loud or wince in pain reading the nonsense you have written a few days ago. All the enthusiasm and mystery will be gone. You will see all the repetition, bad choice of words, confusing story line, boring descriptions, and pointless arguments in the text. This is the second stage (I gave up at this stage). Now you must make a serious decision - throw the text in the trash and forget about your ambition or learn writing. Writing is 90 percent craft and 5 percent talent. Unfortunately, once you have learned the craft and harvested your talent you still need 105 percent luck to get published. Writing a successful novel is a 200 percent effort. It is hard work, incredible discipline and supernatural stamina. Don't believe the nonsense that you can just sit down and write another "Catcher in the Rey". The best way of learning how to write is to write. The best way of taping into your talent is to live. I don't think you can write anything interesting if you spend your life in a library or behind your desk. Some of the most fascinating stories have been written by people who had started writing as a second career - having been a successful lawyer, housewife, medical doctor, psychologist, journalist, school teacher, or scientist.     55. Start a business!

    One of the best things in America (and other free-market economies) is the opportunity to start á small business. Being your own boss is incredibly satisfying. But don't be naive enough to believe you just need a great idea and the money will come poring in! Usually, starting a business is years of hard work. There are scores of books, web sites, and other resources available that promise to help you start a business. My advice: Save your money! The bottom line is actually very simple: if you don't do it, you will never know whether it works or not. No training, no good advice, no education can replace the "jump into the water". There is only one basic rule: You must love what you want to do.

    Growing mushrooms from a kit is a science project you can eat. If you are smart and dedicated you may even make a business out of it. "Whole Foods" is selling mushroom growing kids like crazy. There are all kinds of edible mushrooms you can grow in your home: Shiitake mushrooms have a meaty, somewhat spicy taste. Portobello also taste like meat, but are mild and can be grilled like a steak. Maitake mushrooms have a strong earthy flavor and are excellent for a stir fry dish.
