The La Roche Posay I use is the European formulation with Mexoryl as the active ingredient. The US versions contain "Cell-OX shield" which is beauty industry speak for a mix of the usual chemical agents -- avobenzene, homosalate, oxybenzone etc. It is Mexoryl that sets La Roche Posay apart from other sunscreens. It has one the highest PPD ratings and offers the most UV protection. The EWG also lists it as a low risk ingredient. The FDA approved the use of Mexoryl in sunscreens very recently. Hopefully we'll see the European formulations in US drug stores soon.

I pick up mine when I or DH travel for work or buy online from UK retailers who ship to the US. This is one retailer I trust - LifeandLooks.com

For running and swimming I use Blue Lizard sport. It does leave a white-cast but is water resistant for 80 minutes and serves the purpose. I'm looking for something equivalent with a higher spf for longer runs but no luck so far.

I'm with you about the colors for brown skin. Exact matches to our skin tones are very hard to find. I get foundation samples in a few shades and my current shade is a 2:1 blend of two adjacent shades. If you have a foundation you like and are happy with the shade, you can use Findation.com | Foundation color matching to find color matches in other brands. It is a neat little website.

The perfumes are available in Bloomingdales, Saks and Neiman Marcus. Bourjois is a French drugstore makeup brand. Their healthy mix foundation is one of the best I have ever used. You cannot find it in the US but you can buy from UK sellers who ship to the US.

    1) What is ph balance and best shampoo in your opinion?
I like brocato cloud 9 shampoo a lot. Great scent but not overpowering.

    2)Best sunscreen for sensitive skin?
I like Josie Maran argan oil sunscreen. It is oily though but it feels good on my skin. The other one I really like is Biore Aqua UV - it is probably the best one in my opinion. Japanese sunscreens are so good but a little harder to find.

    3)Best perfume?
I like Chloe and Chanel No. 5.

    4) favorite home facial tips?
Crushed aspirin for acne, and aloe vera for soothing.

    5)Does hair coloring gray hair?
    No.

    6)Favorite brand of makeup?
Different depending on what the purpose is. I like Dior and Mac overall.

    7)Favorite store for clothes?
I like Nordstrom for variety or small boutiques for more unique things

8)Most important beauty tip that works wonders?
Sleep and drink lots of water!

9)How often do you do facial, spa, mani pedi?
    Facial maybe every 2 months.
Mani I do myself or else maybe three times a year.
    Pedi about once a month.

Wow good thread.. Lots of learn :)

    1) I use Loreal Smooth Intense Straightening Shampoo
    2) Neutrogena
    3) Channel No 5, Gucci Intense, Viva La Juicy, Marc Jacobs Daisy
    4) Turmeric, Milk. Planning on trying the ones from here.
    5) No
    6) Mac, Bare Minerals and Tarte. In the process of switching to Natural brands
    7) I don’t have a particular shop. I usually shop around for the cloth styles I find in the blogs. Loft, Marshalls, DKNY, Express, etc
    8) Know what your best feature is and highlight on it. For me, its my nails. So, I take extra care of them.
    9)
Facial, Spa - Don’t remember the last time I went.
Mani/Pedi - I love doing it by myself. I don’t like getting it done outside.

O ye Goddesses so wise about beauty, what are the at-home DIY options for facial hair removal for Indian woman in early 20's living in the U.S.? Upper lip, chin, along the jawbone. Not eyebrows. Preferably ones that remove from root, but also looking for trimmer kind of options.

amazon link would be nice, I have to order for someone.

One is a tool that kind of mimics threading - Sephora: Tweezerman : Smooth Finish Facial Hair Remover : tweezers-eyebrow-shapers

Edit: Another link from amazon: Amazon.com: Bellabe, the No.1 Rated Facial Hair Remover that's Made in USA, Best of its kind, Very effective and easy to use, No more waxing, tweezing, shaving or bleaching: Beauty

It's a tightly wound spring that has handles and it traps the hairs between the coils and pulls it out. It take a little bit of time to get used to how to use it.

She can also try sugaring but that is very DIY - heat up sugar, water, lemon juice to make a wax and then use it like a regular wax.
