I saw a hindi movie called "Paheli". Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukherjee acted in that. They get married in the first scene. I think they were playing characters of a rajastani/bhojpuri? tribe of some sort. Anyway.. a ghost sees the beautiful RM, and falls in love. Soon after the marriage, and even before consummating it, SRK was sent away on some trading mission. The ghost assumes the SRK look+physique and comes to RM. Even after she knows that it is a ghost in the form of her husband, she uses that KOREAN proverb and keeps the ghost. A very pragmatic move. They have a love song, and a rainy consummation of their love. Korea has so many television love dramas of various kinds. A number of them involve long separations, and separated hearts getting tempted into temporary arrangements that leave them with a whole lot of guilt, misgivings and other complications from those that know. I think proverbs can get people into trouble. They encourage people to innovate, and mess up.
Need help from people who are good in Tamil and old Tamil Movies. In one Tamil movie, the comedian Nagesh ( I think ) says "Not everything that is white is milk, neither everything black is Gandhi". Quite good; but I forgot the name of the movie or the context of this observation. Can anyone help ?
Half a loaf is better than no bread - meaning be grateful for what you have rather than complain for what you dont.
Here are a couple from Malaysia: Lembu punya susu, sapi dapat nama The Cow has got the milk, but the bull gets the publicity. Explanation: Show beats substance. Sudah jatuh ditimpa tangga You fall, then the ladder falls on you. Explanation: Badluck comes in bunches. When it rains, it pours.
Hi Nonya, Welcome to the thread. Happy that you liked the proverbs posted. Do contribute yours too regularly. Thanks. Rani
Death with Dignity is better than Life with Humiliation It is better to accept death and keep your honour than to live with humiliation
"You can't make an omelet without breaking a few eggs." When you try to do something great, you'll probably make a few people annoyed or angry. Don't worry about those people; just focus on the good "God helps those who help themselves" Don't just wait for good things to happen to you. Work hard to achieve your "Don't bite the hand that feeds you." If someone's paying you or helping you out, you have to be careful not to make them angry or say bad things about them
