This Giant of a river that flows in to Tamilnadu thru Andhra, rises @ Nandhi Hills Karnataka and drains in Bay of Bengal.. It depends on the rains mainly in southern region. Its been a major source for irrigation for many districts like south Arcot, North Arcot, Vellore etc. Unfortunately, for the past couple of decades there has been no water flowing in this river due to various reasons, natural and man made. This image was shot from flight, this summer (May-June) I cant help the choking feeling when I saw the mud river for miles.
Reason for the dry condition is that (despite the heavy rain) the inlet channels draining water into this river all along its course were blocked or had completely vanished. The sand mafia has worsened the condition by robbing the soil all along the basin. If this persists, Palaru may only be history soon, dying a natural death.

If water resources are neglected like this, TN will become a desert soon.
It'll be a great injustice to the future generation if we continue to be insensitive!

But the authorities who are responsible, they themselves are not seem to have realized the enormity of the matter..or perhaps they are overruled by the politicians..whatever may be the reason/condition better some action be taken at the earliest.
