My 8 year old daughter has been on a growth spurt since the last 6 months. We are vegetarians but have been giving her organic eggs for breakfast until about 2 months ago.

In the last 3 months she has shown signs like breast development and also pubic/underarm hair. We met her pediatrician recently she said that our daughter at this rate can reach puberty within the next 6 months itself. She is at about 95 percentile on the weight chart and 90 percentile on the height chart. She is a very physically active kid involved in sports and dance. Also, she is not genetically predisposed to reaching puberty early based on her mother's and cousin's time line.

We have been referred to a pediatric endocrinologist to further evaluate her. While we will be meeting the specialist in a week, I am quite concerned and wondering if any of you here have had similar experiences and what to expect from all this.

My 10 year old daughter is going thru puberty

@nvk I don't think it is precocious puberty when she is 8+. I have heard of menarche at 8 and 9. Relax and see what the endocrinologist has to say.

Even I was under the impression that puberty is from the the genetic predisposition I was told by a friend who is a paed that today lot of other things factor in

Thanks for your inputs @Shanvy! When I went to see the pediatrician I went with more like a mindset to find out if I should take any special care in terms of diet or supplements but didnt expect to be told that she was precocious. Online information is quite varied in terms of the range and it differs from below 7 years to below 9 years across sites. The kids in the family who have hit menarche in recent years have done so at 11. I will wait and see what the endocrinologist says and update here too.

trust your paed and don't google for info. there is a walt disney movie on menstruation.
maybe both of you can watch it together and you can make a pact with her. do update. let her do what she has been doing. don't panic or stress, your daughter is watching you.

Thanks for the link Shanvy! I will watch this movie with her post her exams.
Meanwhile, we took her to the endocrinologist last weekend. She thinks it could be precocious but wants to check based on tests if this needs to be treated/delayed or if we can let nature take its course. She has recommended few tests for her - bone age X-ray, Ultrasound of abdomen and GnRH test. We have done the bone age and ultrasound already. GnRH test requires fasting blood draw and timed blood draws at 4 hours and 24 hours after administering GnRH. Since it is exam time currently we will do this in couple of weeks after her exams are done.

Hugs nvk...take a well thought call. Hope everything works best for the kiddo.

As mom it is tough to watch your lo go through it but remember kids are quick study and learn well and are resilient even in tough situations..the only thing they need is the right answers to their questions, no confusing/contradicting opinions and loads of support and support

    Thank you for the update.
