Chapter 11

As one shloka completed, Anushka came on stage. A white silk shawl was placed between bride & groom.

Tadaiv lagnam sloka started. Asha signaled Anushka to be alert. Upon completion of last sloka the silk shawl was removed. Anushka slightly shivered when she observed Adish whose state of mind was not different. They exchanged garlands. Akshata (rice) & flowers were showered on them. Shehnai too played in hall.

“Bride & groom, please sit down facing east direction” Priest said guided them about direction.

After sankalp ritual, Mahesh was called up for Kanyadan ritual. Mahesh got emotional while doing the ritual. Adish gently clutched his hand gesturing him not to worry. Mahesh felt touched & Anushka just stared Adish.

“Now you complete mangalsutra ritual” Priest asked to give managalsutra to Adish.

Devki handed over it to Adish. Adish filled haldi & kumkum in its disks. He tied it around Anushka’s neck. His touch again tickled her & they shared an eye lock.

They were unaware that Mangalsutra the sacred thread was going to do wonders in their lives!

Now it was time for saptpadi ritual (seven rounds). Priest asked them to get up. Anushka got up but while adjusting the heavy garland she slightly trembled. Adish quickly holds her wrist.

Anushka adjusted herself & noticed she is holding his hand. She was about release it, the priest said” now you hold each others hand with little figure & start doing seven rounds of this sacred fire.” They followed priest’s instructions & started doing rounds slowly.

Finally all marriage rituals completed. They were asked to take blessings of almighty followed by elders. Once everything done they went to change.

For reception Adish wore a dark grey suit & Anushka drapped a orange – pink combination designer saree. They were looking very adorable but unaware of the same. Reception went smoothly.

It was time for pathavani (daughter’s send off). Anushka cried on Mahesh shoulder. Her cousins hugged her. Swanand came forward & patted on Mahesh’s shoulder. He said” Mahesh ji now your daughter is ours. I assured that she will be happy at our place. “Mahesh smiled & thanked him. Nandini took Anushka to Adish’s car. Parineeta was too emotional but she was unaware about what was there for her in the store.

The barart reached at Adish’s residence. Devki guided Anushhka about gruhpravesh. She pushed the glass of rice with her right leg & entered her new home. She slowly observed everywhere. She lit diya at mandir & prayed.

They both went to change dress. Anushka observed herself for while in mirror. She was stunned to see herself in mirror. How beautiful she was looking! Her face was glowing like any new bride. She felt thrilling inside when she noticed in mirror that Adish is standing behind her. She quickly turned to him.

Adish adjusted his throat. “kaki is calling us in hall”

“Yeah, give me 10 minutes”.

Adish nodded & went out. Anushka changed into a simple saree & came out. They had their dinner. Nandini told them to get ready tomorrow to visit local temples in Pune. The Satynarayana pooja was organized in next month on the day of Dutta Jayanti.

Next day they visited temples of local deities in Pune & went to Anushka’s place for return dinner. When everyone asked them about honeymoon they give reason lack of leaves as decided earlier. Devki felt sad. To cheer her up & to avoid her suspicion they lied her that will go for vacation after one month for sure. Devki was convinced with that reply as for her Adish’s marriage was big thing.

Adish told Anushka that Dadu’s wife Janaki will cook food for them. They have to pretend like a couple who is very much in love in front of her as they are their old servants whom his father treated like family members. Anushka agreed. Thank god! I don’t have to cook food for him!

She then remembered about Devki who told her to arrange all her stuff in new wardrobe in Adish’s bedroom. Anushka dragged her suitcase to cupboard. Adish noticed her while going to bedroom & banged his head.
