Episode 14

Part 2

Kanna's act of hiding the gift box increased Uma's curiosity.

'Hiding something from me! Let me find out why'

Uma "Kanna, did you invite your friends for lunch tomorrow? As discussed with the manager, we will be getting the hall around 12pm.

What time did you inform all?"

Kanna "Ha Uma, I asked my friends to come after 12:45pm"

Uma "All people whom you invited agreed to come?"

Kanna "Yes most of the people will come. why?"

Uma "No just asked to ensure that the count which we gave should not mismatch with the people turning up"

Uma was still thinking about the gift. She kept looking into the luggage and Kanna noticed this.

Kanna "Uma"

Uma looked at him and said "nothing, I am just looking into your luggage and thinking as should we arrange in cupboard today itself"

Kanna smiled and said "let us do it tomorrow."

Uma "Then what shall we do now? I am not feeling sleepy."

Kanna "Why dont we talk? Though we know each other from childhood, we dont know about our characters.

Also our likings, dislikings, future plans, etc.

What you say?"

Uma happily agreed and said "Ok. You start"

Kanna "Ohho just because I suggested some topic, it become my responsibility to start? Then you only select the topic for discussion."

Uma smiled and said "Sure? Then I will ask you questions and you have to answer."

Kanna agreed and they both started discussing about the likings, dislikings, their wishes etc.

Then Uma started to recollect about her dad and her happy moments with him.

When she was telling something and said "if at all Appa is alive,.." and kept quiet.

Kanna wanted the ease the situation.

He asked, "Uma why didnt you get a phone? Nowadays tell me who is without cell phone?"

Uma "ya but what is the purpose of it? For calling someone. Who will call me? Mom and Dad.

For that the one with Divya is enough.

I am not telling that I never wanted one.

Once I started earning I will buy one for me."

Kanna nodded his head and said ,"Ok. I will buy one for you."

Uma, "Not necessary Kanna. In another few months I will complete my course and then will buy."

Kanna "Why not now?"

He went got the gift box and asked her to open it.

She opened and it was new handset.

Uma "So thats why Sir hided this from my view, as soon as you came out after refreshing..."

Kanna smiled "Oh you have noted..."

Uma "Yes, I saw that when you left your bag open and went."

Kanna scratched his head and smiled and said "Ok. Then wait. Let me see whether you can guess this.

I got somemore things for you."

Uma was smiling and asked "Somemore, what?"

Kanna opened the other covers and it was dresses for Uma.

"Hey when and why did you get this? And why did you get readymade? If size doesnt match?"

Kanna "How will it be? I took Divya with me for shopping and she only helped me in selecting these."

Uma "Idiot girl. Didnt tell me only."

Kanna "I have requested her that I wanted to gift you surprisingly. Thats why.

OK leave it.

Do you like these? And mobile too?"

Uma was very happy and was not knowing how to react.

She never expected that Kanna will gift her like these.

She just holded his hand and said "Thank you" and smiled looking at his face.

Kanna "I dont want thanks and all Uma.

But just tell me whether you like all these things?

I wanted you to look like other people who come to college.

I know financially we should climb the ladder.

But I am there now na, so I thought let me help you in this.

Henceforth you should wear nice dresses. OK?"

Uma "Ok Sir. But it is only another few months. And I am planning to join the nearby hospital as duty doctor.

I will use these by then"

She was very much pleased not because of the gifts but because of his affection in getting those things.

She remembered Kumar and immediately she got tears.

Kanna understood that Uma is thinking about Kumar and looked at the clock and said "Ok. Its already 12:30 Let us sleep. Should get up early and get ready tomorrow.

Should go for duty"

Uma laughed and said "Kanna today only we got married and you forgot. You decided to take off till Sunday."

Kanna smiled at his action and went to sleep on the bed.

Uma went and opened the cupboard and brought something and tied that on Kanna's hand.

Kanna sat and looked and it was a beautiful watch.

Kanna "Uma what is this? You didnt tell me?"

Uma “did Sir tell me about the gifts he got for me for my wedding.

This is from the money I saved. Did you like it?"

Kanna got tears from his eyes and said "You know after my parents death, it was me who has to get everything for myself.

Both my aunty helped me to come up in my life. And as I stayed in hostel, never have to ask them anything and they get whatever is needed for me.

And after I started to drive cab and set up my own room, I started to buy everything for me.

My friends usually gift me shirt. But mostly it will be known. I mean they will come with me and get me shirt.

But I never know that I can be this much happy just by a surprise.

I am very very happy"

Tears rolled on his cheeks and Uma was not knowing how to react.

She caressed his hair and then sat next to him.

Kanna was holding his wrist where Uma tied the watch, smiled at her and holded her hand.

Both of them laid next to each other. Their hands were holded because of affection which they observe for each other.

They looked at each other.

They both decided to switch off the light and talk.

Kanna started to narrate his childhood days and Uma was saying hmmm hmmm and after few minutes these was silence and Kanna observed that Uma slept.

He smiled looking at her and decided to sleep.
