Writer’s Block

He stared down at his work, feeling dissatisfied. In annoyance, he looked around at the greenery, the chirping birds and the gushing water. At the adoring critters that surrounded him.

The ants, his dear companions, ran all over his body, tickling him, in an attempt to lighten his mood.

'What bothers you?' The noble eagle asked, as it landed on the Palasa tree, under whose shade the writer was seated.

The author sighed. 'I am so close. But I cannot make my mind up'.

'Explain your problem to us' the squirrels said, shaking the dust off their backs.

'My hero. Throughout the book, I strove to make my hero relevant, someone that my readers can identify with, learn from and discuss about. He has just decimated a powerful army. There is a big reveal coming up. But after his magnificent valor, I need to make him seem ordinary again.'

'Go on' prodded the monkey, between mouthfuls of a ripe mango.

'My plot twist leading up to the revelation… I wonder if it's a little much. Maybe I should change it. It makes him not just human, but almost contemptible…. '

The doe eyed dotted deer, golden in color and bearing, glowed in the morning sun as if studded with gems. 'Must your book be perfect when your hero isn't?' she asked.

'But my book will be the first of its kind. I have a feeling that it will be d...' The writer paused as the question sank in.

'So be it.' He said with a smile.
