My daughter had written a poem for an MBA college application and I thought it was good to post it here. Please go through it and give your comments.

    Regards.

    I Infancy: A Green House

A girl was born in the City of Joy; on the first day of the year,
A green blur is all that’s visible until the picture grew clear,
Sheltered by kith and kin, she knew only joy, no fear.

II Growing up: Years of Solitude

Growing up in a remote corner; solitude was always by her side,
But soon she formed a kinship with books, her world opened so very wide

Fairies and elves roamed her universe; it was made up of dreams,
Writing, painting and music opened up grand new realms.

III Teenage: Silent Rebellion/Delusions of Grandeur

Teenage is a funny time, more so if you live in fantasy land,
Fiction and reality blur together, to friends she was Alice in Wonderland.

Rebellion was her forte; she wouldn’t tread the beaten path,
But her heart bled for the poor, all those who face the world’s wrath.

Gradually she woke up from her reverie; for there was the world to see,
And to steer her boat, from the narrow river to the turbulent sea.

    IV College Years: Wakeup Call

Time to face the real world, unprepared, but avoid it she can’t
In the confines of her hostel, her friends found an agony aunt

Rediscovering herself, she experimented with writing, dance and song
New spheres opened, hitherto unknown; pleasures that would last long

V Working Finally: Welcome to the Real World

The real world was still a myth, until she went out there to earn a living,
Training and learning, coping and dealing – in a place so unforgiving.

Starting with small strides, her work took her a long way,
A touch of romance also did help, to brighten up her day.

VI Land of Stars and Stripes: Initial Years

A long cherished dream soon came to be - a journey to a foreign land,
What awe and wonder she felt, as she watched her horizons expand.

Slowly and steadily, she settled in, she flourished,
Work took on new dimensions, her talents burnished.

    VII Full Bloom: Leader

Joy knew no bounds, when she got to mentor her own team,
Working as friend, philosopher and guide; was a pleasure supreme.

Life is the best teacher, she was now a leader
Excitement awaits, she looks forward to the future

Life indeed is a poem. Sometimes happy , sometimes sad, sometimes in between... How we interpret that 'poem' is what determines our ability to accept things that happen in our life. Liked the poetic summarization of her life so far. Best wishes for a bright future.
