    Hi Ladies,

    Greetings!!!

I am planning to pursue sewing as a hobby. In fact its a long pending item that i have always been thinking to learn. I think now the time has come to learn as i found couple of places that offer tailoring right form the scratch. I will be enrolling sooner.

Now my apprehension is to go for a conventional or a computerized sewing machine.
    Please suggest

    Regards!!

    Hi,
I never heard of computerized sewing machine. You mean the electronic one- with foot press and automatic settings for buttonhole and bobbin? I use Singer 1512 sewing machine. It is good for beginners. Convenient for use and storage as well.

Computerized sewing machines are for embroidery and it is very expensive. I think you are mentioning electronic foot pedal ones vs manual pedals. Go for electronic foot pedal ones. Usha or Singer are both good brands. Usha is a good one if you are in India else Singer

Computerized ones come in the range of 6000INR onwards. They have pre programmed stitches and embroidery patterns. You can connect that to laptop to download a design. If you are doing sewing for hobby I would highly recommend you to buy a low end computerized sewing machine. I have Brother CS6000i model. I used to stitch my own blouses before. But now my machine is just eating dust :worried:. Guess if I had daughters instead of sons I would have used it more often.

Thank you Ms. Nirmala. But my friend had told to buy the conventional model as it gives flat space to stitch, whereas in computerized aka electronic will have the edge closer to the needle path which would give the space crunch. Kindly suggest. Thanks

Conventional ones have large flat workspace when compared to electronic ones. I have worked with both of them and both have advantages and disadvantages. It depends on how much u get used to them. Conventional ones will take care of all sewing needs and last forever.
