My Mirror Talks To Me

“Mirrors are ice that do not melt: what melts are those who admire themselves in them”- Paul Morand . It’s not often that I like to look at myself in the mirror. Having said that, it’s difficult to leave home without doing the same. It’s equally difficult to resist the urge to look into a mirror when it is very close to you.

This morning as I left home after one last glance at the shiny mirror, I was wondering if the mirror was actually a person! Well, that’s not a very out of the box thought. I am sure many of you have thought of it too. It’s quite common for us to look at the mirror and talk to ourselves.
I am pretty much sure everyone does it. It’s not exactly narcissist but it’s just common.

I repeat. I think the mirror is actually like a person. It’s silly I know because that person looks like you, the person is YOU. When you get dressed and look into the sparkling glass surface, it’s almost like you hear it say “hey! Looking good, have a nice day.” Or maybe “hmm I think the blue shirt looked better on you.” So, you could quickly run and change your shirt. All those times you landed in front of the mirror after you had that famous argument with your Mom or your spouse. You are boiling with rage and ready to spit fire. You are speaking your mind out in front of the mirror. The mirror is nodding, taking in all you have to say, but offering you no advice. Giving you just what you need. A shoulder to cry on.

Not to forget times that you are happy and have to wait to tell someone about it. Your promotion, your baby, your story, your date…. The mirror is always available. Steady and still, ever receptive to all your emotions. Almost giving you a high five as you look into the glass and beam with all your heart. You practice before the mirror before your project presentation, before you propose to the love of your life, before you go on the stage for a play, before you give an interview….the mirror is always there patiently help you watch yourself, helping you guide yourself to make the best of you perform. “Mirrors have three purposes. While doing all this, the mirror easily qualifies as one of your strong silent friends.

The next time you look into a mirror, look longer and listen up to something it might want to say. Needless to mention, enjoy the view!

It was very interesting to read your thread . Mirrors are our best friends.Though we are the same sometimes we look different in the mirror must be due to our moods I think. Just want to share a story which I got from google

Looking at Mirror

One day all the employees reached the office and they saw a big advice on the door on which it was written: “Yesterday the person who has been hindering your growth in this company passed away. We invite you to join the funeral in the room that has been prepared in the gym”. In the beginning, they all got sad for the death of one of their colleagues, but after a while they started getting curious to know who was that man who hindered the growth of his colleagues and the company itself.

The excitement in the gym was such that security agents were ordered to control the crowd within the room. The more people reached the coffin, the more the excitement heated up. Everyone thought: “Who is this guy who was hindering my progress? Well, at least he died!” One by one the thrilled employees got closer to the coffin, and when they looked inside it they suddenly became speechless. They stood nearby the coffin, shocked and in silence, as if someone had touched the deepest part of their soul. There was a mirror inside the coffin: everyone who looked inside it could see himself.

There was also a sign next to the mirror that said: “There is only one person who is capable to set limits to your growth: it is YOU.” You are the only person who can revolutionize your life. You are the only person who can influence your happiness, your realization and your success. You are the only person who can help yourself. Your life does not change when your boss changes, when your friends change, when your partner changes, when your company changes. Your life changes when YOU change, when you go beyond your limiting beliefs, when you realize that you are the only one responsible for your life. “The most important relationship you can have is the one you have with yourself” .

Moral: The world is like a mirror: it gives back to anyone the reflection of the thoughts in which one has strongly believed. The world and your reality are like mirrors lying in a coffin, which show to any individual the death of his divine capability to imagine and create his happiness and his success. It’s the way you face Life that makes the difference.

I thought of one thing and read this thread, but now confused!

As you wrote, just a few glances at mirror everyday, never thought of this way. Does it talk to me?? Really!
Maybe, if face is the index of mind, ofcourse the mirror should talk, right!

But I did like this sentence of yours. “The most important relationship you can have is the one you have with yourself” . True, but I consider my relationship with my dh as more important, even though whatever you told is right. I can't change that feeling, I am confused, here as well...Aha, maybe you are talking spiritually, looking onto thy self, self realization, then yes I now understand, it is true, we are the most important person to ourself!!!

Now everytime I look at the mirror I will remember you!
Because I don't think deeply like you!
So will leave it as such, and will think over a period of time, and if I find more reflections, ( internal reflections), which can be seen by the mirror, I will come back to you!

My mirror scares me so much now and also reminds me about what kind of faces I made in front of it when I was young. I admired the image in the mirror so much thinking that it was me. I am 62 now and after the age of 50, I came to know that what I see in the mirror is not real me. It is a perishable wrapper that surrounds me and would deteriorate and eventually merge with the planet earth. The search for my Self is on for the past 12 years but without any success. I am searching for the encryption so that I can see the core inside of it. I wish I can peel to see the real banana inside.
