Dear Friends My son is allergic to mosquito bite , he gets boils, itching it worsens and leaves scare . Iam applying 2 times Calamine lotion and try to protect max from mosquito. My pead, has suggested to give ATARAX 1.5ml three times ( when he is itching bad) and only in night during normal days , and she also adviced me that it doesnt has any side effects and we could give as long as we could , till he outgrows. Can i go ahead??? pls advice since iam worried to give for longer period, inspite of her assurance.
Atarax is an anti-histamine and as such pretty safe (except for the sleepiness it produces) for kids. If there is an intense reaction sure no harm in giving it. But on a long term basis I really wouldnt (ie not more than 7-10 days at a time). It might be better to put more effort into preventing mosquito bites for the long-term. You could also get a dermatologist opinion - they might have some ideas too. V.
Thanks vanathi, this is what i want to hear.. hmm dermatalogist is a gud suggestion , let me take him this week.. thanks once again..
Hi Brindhaa.. i could see this post dated 4 years back.. hope your kid has grown out of this allergy..could you please let me know how to overcome this allergy in kids?.. currently my 4 year old daughter is suffering the same
Hi OP I have similar mosquito issues from childhood to this age. I get big bumps all over, reddiness, get itchiness that does not go away for months, and scars. I think it is because of my skin layer is very thin. What is your kids age? You can try apply vaseline/aquaphor immediately when swelling starts. That is my staple for everything. NOT A SUGGESTION BUT SHARING MY 1 EXPERIENCE : One time I used OTC Aveeno Cortisone after camping in woods. Problem It had to be used immediately and it was helping with swelling/itching. Also I noticed sitting in sun or heat was increasing itching. DO NOT use Cortisone on kid w/o docs advice.
Hi Sanjuruby am really sorry to know that you have this allergy .. very hard to see my kid suffering.. she is getting up at night with intense itching and hurting her skin.. days are running with citirizine only. if we stop the medicine she will start itching. . feel bad to give her citirizine continously thinking of the sideeffects it may cause.. can you pls tell me whether this allergy will go off once she is away from mosquitos?. we try our best to protect her from mosquito bite but still atleast 2 or 3 mosquitos will bite her in a day.. will the allergy continue even if one mosquito bites? we are abroad and have come to india for long vacation.. are you also abroad? .. sorry for b so many questions.. still lots more to ask.. hope to find some solution
I would suggest to use the best mosquito repellent in India to avoid getting mosquito-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, zika fever, etc. It is not only the skin rash or allergy mosquito bites cause very serious diseases. Natural mosquito repellents in form of fabric roll-on, patches, skin-cream, and room-spray are available that effectively kill the mosquitoes and protects you from them.
OTC Aveeno Cortisone - I also used it on myself for same reasons. Camping in woods gave me terrible bites and i waited 1-2 days, ultimately got cortisone. It definitely helps but again used immediately and kids less than year, needs docs recommendation to use cortisone and increased ithing in heat or extreme cold. Mainly because of thin skin like I have and kids also have thin skin. Once, she got terrible bites in India, I was scared of cortisone so aquaphor'ing/vaselining her all the time.
Very few know the correct way to get rid of mosquitoes by using natural mosquito repellent. The best brand offering mosquito repellent in India is Goodknight. One must use them and stay protected against mosquitoes.
