    Hello Fellow Ilities,

Friends, I need information about Cerebral Palsy and the steps to be taken for the kids treatment.

We came across one of our temporary employee has a Child with Cerebral Palsy. We would like to help his family and importantly the kid. The child is few months shy of 2 years. At first we heard that she has problems with walking, but when we have visited their home and gone through the reports, it is understood that it is Cerebral Palsy. At this stage, we do not know the intensity of it. I have been reading about it from then.

They have identified when she was about less than an year and have done some treatments - Physiotherapy at the local health centre and from last five months they have not continued with Physiotherapy, a different kind of walking aids have been provided and throughout the day she wears and with that she is able to stand and takes few steps it seems

She is not able to sit by herself. The other aspects of growth are fine it seems. Though the doctor suggested to test for her hearing abilities, parents haven't taken her for those tests, yet. The Child's hearing abilities seems to be okay and she is not fully speaking but babbles and in other aspects she seems to be fine.

Right now, I want to understand how the Child has to be taken care of and would like to know about others experiences in this aspect. We will be talking to the health centre to understand more about her situation and also planning to take her to good hospital for detailed investigation.

It would be greatful if someone can share about their experiences seen or heard. Apart from helping the kid in treatment, I want to know how the parents should treat the child. I would like to pass on such knowledge to the mother too.

    Thanks.

It's so generous of you to think of helping the CP child.

I strongly suggest that the kid be thoroughly evauated with neurologists, orthopedician, ent specialist, speech therapist etc since CP kids have lot of developmental issues like hearing, learning problems, scoliosis, etc.

Here are sites to know more about CP:-

    Cerebral Palsy

Facts | Cerebral Palsy | NCBDDD | CDC

It's better to advice mother to go for a counselling session so that she can understand the problem her kid has and how she can help the kid and herself to deal with it.

Also she can join support groups where parents dealing with similar issues come together to discuss, support and learn to deal things better.

Thanks a lot Pinky2cute for immediate response. We are about to seek an appointment with one of good hospitals here. Will keep in mind your response.

The parents are not much educated. The father doesn't seem to understand her exact situation and severity. Mother is trying hard to get a perspective. I appreciate for her strength.

I will go through the links you have provided. Thanks once again.

Please tell her parents not to neglect their kid's problem. Early intervention with correct medicines will help a lot and make a lot of difference in her life.

I'm a doctor myself [ though not pediatrician or neurologist and the kid needs them more now]. I'm a general physician. please do let me know whatever help is within my limits I'd be glad to do.

Depends on the severity of CP which determines the need for the disability help.
Will need to be rehabilitation either way and that would be the treatment for the child.
