My DH's cousin got married last month. In our community, we require a decorated clay pot in one the pre-wedding rituals called ghari-pooja. This pot is called the "ghari".

Now, here is the significance of this custom....

This pooja is performed at the houses of the bride and groom respectively. The mothers of the bride and groom step out of their house with their elder daughter's husband carrying this pot on their head. This pot is carried outside the house with lot of cheering to break any evil spells and to ward off evil eye.

Sharing with you all a picture of the pot I decorated for my cousin. Hope you will like it.

Thanks lucky2 for your first fb and like!!!

I have not varnished the pot. Just painted it with the regular fevicryl paints.

It is not broken. It contains water which remains in the pot till the wedding is over. After that, it can be re-used for any other wedding in the family or can be placed in the house as decorative item.
