interstitial lung disease

dear friends;
i am in a real fix and i need the help of doctors or people who have had a similar experience to advise.My mother was diagonosed with interstitial lung disease about one and a half years back.This is a disease in which the lungs are damaged slowly and slowly till it ultimately stops working.My mother was given steroids in the beginning.Later ,she was pulled off steroids and she landed in the ICU.Now she is only on oxygen and bipap machine(it removes co2 from the body).She keeps requesting the doctor for steroids but he flatly refuses.she feels she was active with steroids.she is only borderline diabetic and in good control.what should i do.she cannot travel very far and gets tired in few steps;her oxygen level goes down after using the washroom.i cannot take her out of thane ,mumbai.Any good doctors you know in thane or mulund(lung specialist or pulmonologist).i am desperate to help her but i am a complete novice with regards to this dreadful disease.it should never happen to anyone.please help.i am really in need of your support.

sorry I could not help with the info on the treatment.

Have you checked with Bethany hospital, Jupiter hospital and Hiranandani hospital in Thane west? If not call your local search engine (just dial), get their numbers and speak to them. Jupiter is a multispeciality hospital, hence they should be having one expert there.

Even Fortis in Mulund should be having good pulmonologist

Hi shivany,

Steroids are really terrible for long term. Only suitable for short term use only. Is your mother on the inhalers?
