Moving to New Jersey - Discussion Lounge

HI,
We are coming to US for the first time. Out job location is new jersey.
can you please let me know what are all the neccessary items that I can bring from India.
I have planned to bring 5 kg of rice along with some idli rice and masala items. Do I need to bring atta from India.
as of now bringing phillips mixie, [2] cooker and a tava. Do i need to bring wet grinder. I have 1.5 lts Ultra grinder here in chennai is it neccessary to bring that one.
Please help me with my groccery list.

My hubby's work location is Moto @ South Plainfield.

NJ is little india sangee. So you dont have to bring 5 kg of rice,idli rice etc. You will get everything in the grocery store. Dont bring grocery item from india bring stuff that u might need like amma's homemade sambar powder and rasam powder if you are used to it. Can u be more specific as to what masalas you are talking about??

essentials:
- One stainless steel Prestige-like pressure pan with its containers, one extra gasket and safety valve
- One small stainless steel copper bottom kadai for other things.
- Spatulas for cooking in these 2 dishes
- One microwave rice cooker if available, or one Rubbermaid type plastic dish to hold 2 cups rice and 4 cups water at 3/4 capacity
- 2 plates (not necessary if hotel has kichenette), Corel (china) type if possible/plastic
- Stainless steel tumblers 2 (required). Stainless steel plates for infrequent use - 1 or 2 (optional)
- 2 coffee mugs
- One Kg rice; One Kg toor dal.
- Your favorite lotion/ lipgloss/eyeliner
- One comb/brush
- 1 extra pair eyeglasses, lenses and solution for lasting 3 mths,
- All medications that make you feel better (especially homeopathy like)

Mixie,cooker is fine. if you want grinder u can buy it in NJ it will cost you around 140$. Have u decided on the apartment???

Thanks for your reply.
We have not decided on the appartment, as i laready quoted my hubby will work from South Plainfield and we wanted to stay near to his work location. We are a family of two memebers, yet to plan for kids, so we prefer for 1BHK close to office, Can you suggest any appartments near this place.
My hubby will be in US on 17 th and I am joining him in oct first week.
If you get to know any appartmentrs or any realestate search links, it ll be highly helpful. Thanks again.

Forgot to tell u one more thing. U can search for apartments in google maps also. Just give his office address and in the search nearby link search for "apartments for rent". So if u want u can choose apartments close to his office

Am not sure about preethi but u do get premier grinders here....I bought 1.5L grinder for one of my relative for 160$. Some of the stores do stock Ultra brands.

Please check perfectpeninsula.com. They are the authorized dealers of Preethi mixers in US. I bought online from them. But my preethi blue leaf lasted only for 2 yrs.
