Hi!! Iam writing for the 1st time in this forum.

My Grandmother In-law used to chop the raw mangoes and dry it under the sun. This can be used for many years for various ways like making instant pickle or putting it in the Dal or Avial or if not just put it into your mouth and keep sucking like a candy....

    And the dishes taste yummy!!

Mango -- A word that would make your mouth watering...YUMMY TASTE!!!
    Favourites of many !!!

Mango is one among the Mukkanigal - TriFruits (Sorry for this horrible translation).
namely, Maa (Mango), Palaa (Jack Fruit), Vaazhai (Banana).
    Mango is rich in multi-vitamins.

Though there's a fact that eating too much would cause heat in our body and would affect our stomach badly.

But there's a fresh juice which could be prepared with Mango which is absouletly cool.

    Needed are:
    1. One full ripened Mango-Skin peeled
    2. Pathaneer (its like coconut water, that we get from palm trees) - 1 or 2 litres
    3. Nungu (again a gel kind eatable from palm tree)
    4. Ice cubes if needed.
    cut the mango into pieces/slices.
Cut the nungu into pieces.(the jel alone, not the outer cover)
Add the above to pathaneer and add ice cubes.
    Leave for 30 minutes.
    Then have a drink...Too good.
(Better to get the Pathaneer early in the morning.)

We used to have weekly once during summer vacation.
Its a cooling agent compared to having mango alone.

Thanks for offering us a YUMMY heading :)
    :cheers

    Mango Contest !!! I love Mangoes !!!!

    Hello,

Here I'm with a simple tip of how to cut Mangoes and present them!

Cut the Mango, horizontally (we usually cut it, lengthwise - vertically).
Slightly twist one half and remove that half gently.

    Mango 1.JPG

Now, scoop the pulp in that half and place the pieces in the skin of that half, which serves as a nice bowl now :thumbsup
    Mango 2.JPG Mango 3.JPG

One could also remove the seed gently and make the other half also like a bowl and serve!
    :)
    Mango 4.JPG

P.S. maatha uttatha soorai, manga uttum! (Mango will make a child eat the food, that even mom cant make the kid eat!) :biglaugh

    Keri ...Mango

Mango is the favorite fruit for all ages.
We at home make a lot of sweet pickles and spicy pickles with it.
The more tasty ones are 'kesar' of gujarat and 'appoos' of kerala.
We had a huge mango tree in the backyard, and had a great time plucking mangoes and driving away crows and boys who used to throw stones to get the mangoes...
Panna ,made from green mangoes is a very refreshing drink. It cools the body.
Ripe mangoes must be kept immersed in water for some time and "dry ginger' [soot] should be added to the ras.
Puri and raas are the favourite food of my family and I make a curry with the semi-ripe mangoes. It is delicious.
My son misses eating the tasty mangoes of India,as the mangoes we get there are not so good....

    Selecting the best MANGO

Vendors use carbon powder to make the mangoes ripe. They used keep mangoes inbetween the carbon stones or carbon powder packets in a closed box, so that the mangoes are soon ready to market.
Mangoes can be differenciated whether it had matured naturally in the tree or by the above said artificial method can be known by the black spots on it.

If we happen to see some black spots after buying the mangoes, we can overcome the effect of artificial ripening by placing the mango in a bowl filled with water for about an hour. This releases the carbon gas in the mango and is safe to eat.

This artificial method of ripening of mangoes has the danger of causing cancer in humans. So it is better to follow a simple process to overcome it and enjoy mangoes during the season.

    Thanks,
    winner.
