    hi praharsh,
    congrats on job offer.
kampala is very safe & friendly city.all Indian things are very easily available .there is Indian Association & lots of regional association like patidhar asso. andhra asso. bengali asso. etc.
lots of indian shops in all areas grocery, hardware, electronics, medicine etc.
there is Delhi public school,Aga khan,Kampala international school & many playway & higher level schools run & owned by indians.
all things are easily available but if u have extra space u can bring kitchen items like pressure cooker, wok etc otherwise u can get everything

it can get chilly sometimes so make sure u have some fullsleeved dresses & it rains a lot here(almost everyday)
lots of socialising is there with parties & functions like garba, diwali mela, durga puja, new year............
if u have more queries u are most welcome to ask

    hi praharsh,
feb to april are usually considered cold mths.if u have small kids its good to have socks, caps, trousers, fullsleeved tshirts etc in there wardrobe.its not much hot anytime of the year & temp hovers between 18 to 35 throughout the year.lots of rains.

normally, for any person joining company in africa the companies don't allow the families to come for 2 to 3 mths .they want u to adjust here 1st & if u are not able to adjust u can go back which is more cheap then sponsoring the whole family.but as u have to 1st join in Narobi & then in Kampala & u are in security providing company ur time frame is 6 mths.u can try to negotiate to 3-4 mths as here the school sessions began in sept & its better if kids join then .
there are going to be elections here in feb march 2011.one can't predict security issues during elections but the people living here for past 20-25 years assure that security is no problem.
don't know anything about the company u have mentioned but there are lots of security agencies & with lots of Indian employees.our security providers are Tight Security Ltd.
there is Bank of Baroda,Crane bnk(indian owner).lots of UAXbranches to send money.money reaches the family in usually 24 hrs.try to open NRI or NRO account in Indian bnk before coming.
getting an yellow vaccine is a must & visa is on arrival with fee of $50 in kamapala.
u & ur family are going to love this place.

    Hi Swapna,

Not sure whether it is too late to reply your post. I was staying in Kampala for almost 2 years in 2006-08. It was quite good place. Lot of indian community particularly Gujratis. Easily indian stuffs are available. Cost wise as a thimb rule you can double the indian price. But, climate, people, safety ...superb.

Please let me know for specific information.

    TC.

    Dear Mrs.Pragati,

Your previous posts in this thread gave me a good vision about Kampala. I want to know about the good schools and the school fees. My daughters are in 4th and 1st standard. Also I want to know about the house rent and the peaceful areas to live in. Thanks in advance.

    Bye for now,

    Hi Mrs.Pragati,

Hope you had a nice vacation.
Thanks for your reply. The informations provided by you are useful. We will be in Kampala in nov/dec 2010. Is there any bharathanatyam or carnatic music classes there? We are Tamilians and from Chennai.
I went through your previous posts and got to know about Kampala a bit. Once again thanks for your support. I will come back to you with more queries.

    Bye for now.
    Regards,
    Bharathi
